Long lived sitcoms and TV series that should have been shortlived...

No.No.No.
Like "Sammys Super T-Shirt", "4D Special Agents". These were films from the 70s on a very small budget made as a B-Movie to Seventies classics like Shaft and Taxi Driver...(I merely plucked those titles from the air, I doubt they were EVER shown preceding a Scorcese flick or some bad a*s Blaxploitation!)
If nobody has a clue what I'm talking about then feel free to move on!

Children's Film Foundation smiley - yawn
I know exactly what you mean and couldn't agree more!

Anyone remember the Kiddies quiz show 'Screen test'? The opening titles were full of shots from 'real' 9for which read 'disney') films, but the only films they ever featured were CFF ones.

Can anyone sing the theme to Screen Test and not lapse into 'top of the Form"? Thought not....

Oh I remember the Children's Film Foundation Films. They always seemed to have Brian Blessed and Bill Treacher (later to Become Arthur Fowler in 'Enders) in them as I recall.

Now, I bet few around here can remember Secret Army, the show that Allo Allo lampooned in a big way.

There was a cafe owner whose wife sang songs to the occupying German Soldiers. He also hid RAF airmen to aid the Resistance who wore long trench coats and Berets. It also had a German Captain, Colonel etc who always visited the cafe, and the evil guy was Kessler, a member of the Gestapo!

Secret Army was excellent smiley - ok

..but a very long time ago...

Sounds like a tv version of "Paths of Glory" the Stanley Kubrick movie...but I've sadly never heard of "Secret Army".

It was big in the 1970s, Allo Allo started in the early 1980s as I recall.

You'd have to be late 20s early 30s at least to remember it.

If you saw a repeat you'd be stunned at the similarity to Allo Allo.

Last of the Summer Wine is awful - but it's made worst by the Sunday night time slot. Whenever it came on the telly when I was younger, it meant it wasn't long until I was back at school on Monday smiley - sadface

Now...what about FIRST of the summer wine?

Mister Matty

Last of the summer wine should have been cancelled long ago.

'allo 'allo went on too long, the guy who originally played Herr Flick left, if I remember, and they stupidly got some other guy in.

Red Dwarf - it could keep going, but they need the other writer on board. The 1997 series ranks as one of the worst "comebacks" ever, IMHO.

Only Fools and Horses - 2001 Xmas special was infuriating (have the Trotters lose their millions - yeah, that'll make the viewers happy) and lacklustre.

The Bill - in fact any police drama. There's far too many of them.

Still Incognitas, Still Chairthingy, Still lurking, Still invisible, unnoticeable, missable, unseen, just haunting h2g2

I want to add All Creatures Great and Small to the list.My husband made me sit through 4 showings of every series on UK Gold.On the 5th rerun I told him that if he made me watch it just one more time I would kick the screen in.
Now he's making me watch Stargate(which I enjoyed the first couple of times and he always jeered at me for watching it)over and over again.I wonder if a judge and jury would extend any sympathy at the trial?

Incog.

UK gold is a TV *Station* that should have been shortlived.

Any station that think a whole morning of 15 year old Dynasty repeats is a *good thing* needs its license removing instantly.

And yes, All Creatures Great And Small was the bane of my childhood. One of the programmes forced upon my young mind by those dastardly parents smiley - grr

I don't know, man. UK Gold has its advantages.
As hangover/c***d*** Sunday viewing it can't be beat.
Which other channel could you watch A-Team first thing on a morning?

Or the original Charlies Angels?

Post 60

It's all too much.....

Brief Period of unemployment last September was only made bearable by the re-runs of Charlies Angels on Channel 5.

That should still be going on now...

........on second thoughts, the Angels wouldn't be all that easy on the eye these days...
