What song best sums up you/your life?

Neither are love songs. Wrapped around your finger is a critique of marriage, and Every Breath You Take is about spying and possessiveness in relationships. Of course, they could still typify your life.

" I have only come here seeking knowledge, things they could not teach me back in college"

apologies if that's not quite right

so wot's that all about then?

I fail to see how any of the lyrics in 'Wrapped around your finger' are critical of marriage.

But then I guess every song is open to interpretation and we hear the things we wanna hear.

To me it's a song about devotion and commitment. Which sums up my life.

Ask Sting, a more subtle lyricist than he is given credit for. Watch the video, in which a ring is very clearly destroyed at the end of the last verse:
"I will turn your face to alabaster,
When you find your servant is your master."

Anyway, if reading it that way makes you happy, fine.

It's actually ...
"I will turn your face to alabaster,
Then you find your servant is your master."

Meaning that only when you truely give yourself to someone will you own them. Well that's how I see it anyways.

It was a good video, and the entire set was basically destroyed in the last verse. The director of the video has said that there was no deeper meaning to it, it just looked good knocking all the candles over.

Like you say tho, Sting is probably the only one who can properly descibe what it was about.

But it just goes to show how some people see the glass half empty and some half full.

You got me for a moment. I didn't mean to turn it into a personal soap opera - this is hardly the right place. I should be going...

Don't Go! - Hothouse Flowers.

My theme tune - a la Ally McBeal - is Livin' Joy's Dont Stop Movin

smiley - musicalnote"you can do anything that you want to do"smiley - musicalnote

but one that sums up my Life??? possibly that Talking Heads one

"You may find yourself
in another part of the world
...behind the wheel of a large automobile...
with a beautiful wife.."

etc etc

because I've done loads of exciting things that I never specifically set out to do.

Still Incognitas, Still Chairthingy, Still lurking, Still invisible, unnoticeable, missable, unseen, just haunting h2g2

Used to be My Generation by The Who especially the line 'Hope I die before I get old'.
Now I am old(50) it doesn't seem to fit.Sigh!
For a while it's been Can't Get No Satisfaction by the Rolling Stones but again it's not really right.

Just can't seem to find an anthem for this stage of my life somehow-has anyone any suggestions?I seem to be just waiting and whiling my life away while supporting my kids in their endeavours so I haven't found anything that covers it.
Incog.

Mmmmm...

I hesitate to say anything, as most of mine are songs that I don't really understand the meaing of!

Late teenage - "Regret" by NewOrder. Just for the line
"I would like a place I can call my own"

Few years ago - "Imitation of Life" REM
Don't know what it was about, but vaguely absurd. And so's the song.

Probably always but for different reasons:
"Blue Monday" NewOrder. I really don't know what the lyrics mean, but there's something about the tune that captures something fundamental.

Right at this minute: Steve Harley and Cockney Rebel - Make me smile.

Otto.

Incognitas, I think 'This film's crap, let's slash the seats' by David Holmes could be a brilliant metaphor for your timessmiley - biggrin

Jack Naples, I don't remember the name of the song but the band's called Hard Skin. Having been made aware that their guitarist is called Jonny Takeaway and one of their records is called 'The Christmas Fisting EP', they've been hard to forget...

Definitely, without question, "Meet Virginia" by Train...

Every single thing he sings about her (even the "she wears high heels when she exercises" bit smiley - erm applies.

Scary. Glad my name isn't Virginia smiley - winkeye

Nor is it,

Kate

"Everything You Know Is Wrong", by Weird Al! smiley - laugh

Actually, I can't really think of any. Sometimes I'll be listening to the radio and a particular song will seem very apt at the moment, but my life as a whole has a rather variable soundtrack.

Sounds good Mycroft.I'd best take a listen to that.

For a while I did relate to Sheryl Crow's Every Day Is A Winding Road but I've got bored with that.I tell you I've got another 8 years before I've got my youngest son sorted through past University and I think I may be breaking out of the asylum before then. When did my life become so boooorrring?

Incog.

It's all too much.....

Mine would probably be 'I don't wanna dance' by Eddie Grant, because....well, I don't! I'm at work. It would be inappropriate and could get ugly.
