j' ai besoin de your advice: english ou deutsch? Je dois choose one language je veux étudier next year. Il est very difficult to decider, parce que toutes les two have their up et down sides.

1. I already know l'anglais de base, so it would be plus facile
2. je suis belge et la Belgique est a tri-lingual country, so deutsch est une official langue
3. I've only had 2 years of deutsch und ich weiss nicht viel about it anymore. Whether that's pro or con deutsch, je ne know pas!

What would you suggest? If only je pourrais choisir français

ps: Ne désespérez pas, frangleurs! Mes profs de français always told me le grammar français is much plus logique que le english grammar. Yet every one I know seems to think english est beaucoup plus facile...

question interessant! Do you connaissez any Latin? Deutsche grammar is *much* plus facile if you do. Verb conjugations and noun declensions; masc fem neut; pronouns; adjective agreement; prefixes, roots and suffixes; it's goddit all!

There are other facteurs, bien sur - English is very useful in professional life (depending what you want to do, selbstverstaendlich!) or even when rencontrant people from other parts of le monde - it's the most widespread lingua franca at the moment, i think.

As for l'anglais being 'facile'... ! Don't get me commencé! It's a petit pet hate of moi that so many Français tell me that anglais is facile and French is tres compliqué! pah!

my favourite deutsche word is 'umweltfreundlichkeit' You have to faire semblant being a real deutsch personne when you say it à haute voix. I think it just sounds très bien, puts a sourire on my visage

A perfect example of how différent dutch and deutsch really are is the verbe 'bellen', qui exists in both langues. It's one of the first things you learn at school when you start your leçons allemands because it can cause des situations extrêmement bizarres (et très funny, bien sûr ) : in dutch 'bellen' is used as the english 'to ring', but in deutsch 'bellen' means 'to bark' . You can imagine how 'Möchte ich mahl nach Hause bellen, bitte?' is a phrase often followed by some très strange regards .

Thanks for the advice, speef. I do know latin: I had latin lessons throughout secondary school it, so I'm used to memorizing tout ce grammaire. But that's probablement exactly why I'm a bit reluctant to do it all over avec deutsch. C'est un vrai dilemma. I'll have to réfléchir un peu plus.

Depends pourquoi tu veux le learn:

I'd say Anglais, parce que it's used and spoken over all the monde, and tu will be exposed to it on le internet, le MTV, les films etc.

Je travaille avec le European Commission, where les trois main langues sont anglais, francais, et deutsch.

Mais almost no-one uses l'allemandQuand je publish un document dans les 3 langues, le percentage est about 60% ENG, 30% FR et 10% DE.
