Had a 'ripper' of a thunderstorm last night - actually more of a lightening storm! The lightening was continuous for more than an hour and we had torrential rain as well - about 4 inches in that time. Our front yard was a huge swimming pool but fortunately we live on a slope. The local shopping centre had some flood damage. Unfortunately it didn't do a lot for the temperature and it is still about 30C - very humid.

Hey Maz-
Live in Australia eh? Isn't it suppose to be summer time now?
Did you get thunder with your weather or is it purely lighting?

Maz Posted Dec 3, 2003
Shamrock - of course it is Summer! we wouldn't get 30C in Winter (the C is Celsius NOT Fahrenheit. ie 30C = approx 90F)
That was the strange thing about last night we couldn't hear any thunder. Of course it could have been the noise of the rain !!!!
It is now 530pm and the temp has dropped to 20C with light rain.

Hi Redpeck
Well it makes a change from a couple of months ago when the Brits were complaining about the heat and I was complaining about the cold !!!

Wet and very cold today, light snow which didn't reach ground level. At least the fog has cleared, visibilty down to about 30m for the past 3 days.

Just put on the BBC News and the world weather, it says Vladivostok is chilly and there is a blizzard planned for five o'clock. Good for them!

~65F. Very calm winds, low overcast. The pavement was wet when I just ran to the mailbox, so we must have gotten a light sprinkle about an hour or so ago. Still no mudslides, and the State and County have been loading the burnt slopes with rice straw from Central Valley farms. Dried rice plants are known to absorb water well, so they are trying for stabilization.
Still nighttime temperatures are above 50F, so we are still in 'early spring'. Passifloras still growing a bit and setting out the odd bloom. Paperwhites are up and blooming, freesias and anemones are sprouting, they'll be up next and complement the purples of my heliotrope which is a winter bloomer here. I got some honeysuckles (l. aureoreticulata, l. periclymeum v harlequin, and l, Hall's Improved) from Oregon, and they are now waking up from the chill from the nursery there and setting out new buds.
