Hot. Annoyingly hot. Not as hot as yesterday, but still *too* hot.

Gardeners chose today to lop off all the flowers on the Lilies of the Nile plants out front. They look forlorn.

Sea Change, you seem very knowledgable about plants -- have you ever seen a dark violet/cobalt blue Lilies of the Nile before? My neighbor has a bed of them, and they're magnificent!

Chicago, Thursday, July 13, 6:20 AM. Cool, at the momemnt- 67.8°F (19.9 °C)- but cloudy and hazy, with 90% humidity . Today's high will only be around 85°F (29°C), but the humidity makes the air a bit uncomfortable- kind of like walking around in tepid soup.

Will be going to watch the world go by overlooking the North Bay in about half an hour.

It's nice here this morning, albeit a bit muggy: 73°F (23°C), mostly cloudy, 84% humidity with scattered showers.

It's only supposed to get up to 85°F (29°C) today, but beginning Sunday and on through next week, we'll finally see some real summer temperatures, with highs around 90-95°F (32-34°C).

Another 30C day. Very light breeze in a clear but low-seeming sky. So dry your you can almost hear your pores squeak as they slam shut when you go outside.

Lily of the Nile is a name for Agapanthus, which has a Wikipedia entry. There's lots of images on Google's image, but not any of the deep blue variety. It is a very easy grower here, so everybody does, and so what is missing from all of those Google images that is readily visible in RL, is a good medium view that shows how the plant is even more striking en masse and in lines and borders.

Got sunburned today climbing the highest mountain in Ireland. There was a lovely mountain breeze which made the heat deceptive. And the clouds only started rolling over the hills, casting their dramatic shadows, from about 4 pm.

Weekend was gorgeous. Warm, sunny and dry - hovering in the mid twenties celsius (low eighties fahrenheit).
