Of course, now that I think about, the sexual connotation of baloney may be better seen when one considers that it exists in a large, tubular form before it is sliced. More than that, though, I think there's just something about the word, "baloney," that makes it sound inherently dirty.

What I find really amusing is the old Oscar Mayer commercials, featuring children singing:


"My baloney has a first name,
It's O-S-C-A-R,
My baloney has a second name,
It's M-A-Y-E-R..."


Then, there's the Oscar Mayer "weiner-mobile," which sounds (and looks) like the vehicle of choice for Batman's pornographic counterpart.

Hang on, we are talking about a guy who dresses up in a mask, rubber and a cape, here.

Not to mention a car like, ahem, a baloney, and a 14 year old boy as a - um - side-kick.

I've seen a lot of pornography that is straight in comparison with that!

Okay, Batman wears the mask to hide his identity. He wears the cape, because...because, it looks cool. The 14 year old boy...well...I'm sure Batman has his reasons...

Next, I suppose your going to tell me that Superman's tights make him look less manly.

I guess that things that may be said in the heat of passion, sound very odd in the cold hard light of H2G2

A lot of the things here I would find odd if they were said in a moment of passion. "Oh yes honey, drive your baloney bus to tuna town all night long."

agcB, that's it! the answer! Why we've been getting away with this c**p for so long! Eventually the subject gets past the point of novelty/interest and peters-out. Yes i know that description is another euphomism for 'it', but it's now almost habitual when in this forum! As are ! -!!
