In that case, I chose to reinforce my vote for Bob the Farmer (post 2412) in the strongest possible terms and stress again that I never, ever, ever want to see him in a dress (of any kind, even a kilt or sarong...).
If I have to, then I vote Nighthoover. Actually, if I have to see Nighthoover in a dress then I vote Uma Thurman who is the only person I really want to see in a dress...unless Nighthoover is Uma Thurman, who she just might be...
Or not.

Oh!
Humour!
Or so I am led to believe, one can never be to careful in interpretting the boutade, conceit, crotchet, fancy, freak, megrim, vagary, or whim of another....

"I'm afraid I'm still of the opinion that we need a candiate that can combine George Formby's stunning good looks and acting ability with Liv Tyler's ukulele skills & cheeky wit"
After the docu on Channel Five the other night, there's really only one candidate...

Sorry - I meant RICKY Tomlinson, the suave and debonair well-groomed patriach of the Royle Family, who also plays a mean ukelel at Scouse tribal celebrations. I knew it began with an "R".....
(What IS the technical difference between a banjo and a ukelele, anyway?)

it gets even more complicated as the instrument George Formby played most was a banjo-ukulele ...

maybe the instrument I have is a banjo-ukelele then. It was given to my uncle in the late 50s/early60s, and has a George Fornby badge on it. It is small with 4 strings. tragically my uncle was killed in a motorbike accident in 1962 at the age of 16. For some reason I now have this wonderful intrument in my possession. I have no idea how to play it though.

Yep, looks just like *my* banjo-uke!
I don't know how to play it either - and it would need some repair work done before it could be played, too, since my parents attempted to have it fixed back in the 60's, but the instrument repair shop that did the work couldn't locate any authentic banjo-uke strings for it, so they put some other kind of strings on it instead. It also needs some other work done on it, because the strings won't tighten properly.
A few years back, I was in the local musical instrument repair shop in Lancaster and the proprietor was working on a banjo-uke, so I told him about mine, and that it was not in playable condition. Being the honest person that he is, he let me know that it would be very expensive to restore to playing condition, and that I should just use it as is for decoration, unless I had plans to learn to play it.

yes happy dude my instrument is a banjo-uke. It looks just like the one the man is playing at the website you suggested. Do you know where I can get strings for it? That's all it needs.
