Why is caffeine a bad thing then?

(can't answer cafffeine thing)

but

Apparently if you try getting drunk on drinks with less of a potent taste (beer, whiskey very potent, vodka not so bad) you get less of a hangover.

caffine will dehydrate you more and makes your body very unhappy when hungover.

Gnomon - time to move on

Ethanol makes you drunk, but propanol, butanol and higher order alcohols give you the hangover. This fits with what (antipodean) magrat says. Certain drinks such as Tequila and Champagne give you no hangover, while cheap red plonk seems to be the worst.

I've got to agree with the "loads of water and some painkillers (or one of those so-called hangover cure things- you know, the fizzy things) before bed" idea. This has saved my "employed" status on more than one occassion in the past.

Bacon and fried egg sandwiches are good too. But not always. It depends on the hangover type.

ooh - Painkillers - CHECK the warnings - paracetemol (and various other drugs) is a BAD idea after alcohol, cos your liver is already struggling to deal with the alcohol, and then you chuck in the paracetemol on top of that...you can cause some very nasty damage.

Most of the time your body will know what it wants - if you feel life fried food, then have some...if you feel like sleep, then sleep. Easy smiley - biggrin

OK Which bit of the word "Guide" don't you all understand? Here we all are in an increasing resource of information and no-one has bothered to do a search for "Hangovers" !

Seriously we have the definitive edited entry here;

http://www.bbc.co.uk/h2g2/guide/A103140

and a slightly more specific one by DNA on festive hangovers here

http://www.bbc.co.uk/h2g2/guide/A235261.

Some people, I don't know smiley - biggrin

Sorry, lack of fun caused by lack of hangovers smiley - smiley or rather lack of doing what it takes to get one.

Also, I remembered that entry as I felt diddled I didn't get a reference as I contributed to the forum it was derived from - the bit regarding raw eggs being good as they are a source of cystine, my current hangover prevention/cure is a food supplement called N-Acetly Cysteine, similar to eggs. works a treat, take before and after drinking. As recommended by New Scientist just before the millenium celbrations.

Chances are there's an entry on most things but we still like talkin 'bout it anyway.
