Despite the postings upthread, *today* (April 28th) is St. George's Day this year! This is because no Saint's day is allowed to fall within 7 days of Easter Sunday; if one does, as happened this year, it is moved to the Monday following Easter week.

That sword thing - thats the same reason why spiral staircases always go the same way in castles - so that the attacks couldn't swing the swords as they came up the stairs... right?
