Cold turkey, yeah. They're a lot better than being immersed in this world sometimes.

I think we're having some sort of server problem here today, because that page isn't doing anything, but I'll definitely check that out from home later this evening. Thanks!

I didn't start yet, though. It was snowing this morning and my hair got wet, so I was too busy sulking to read on the train. smiley - laugh

Opti - how was the Dick King Smith book? I think I'd fancy that.

Regarding that book I bought on Saturday, I started it on Sunday and finished it on Monday. (The other four books are still waiting to be finished.) I'm glad I did, 'cos we went to the Terracotta Army exhibition yesterday and it really enhanced the experience.

Hi Sho

The book on Dick King Smith was good but its more about how he wasn't suited to being a farmer than anything else. No juicy stuff as to where he got the inspiration for the story thats lately been made into a film.

Hmm. I remember I read a few books of his when I was a kid, but I'm damned if I can remember the name of any of them, nevermind what they were about. Oh wait. "Harry's Mad", but that's all.

I've just started Wheel of Darkness by Douglas Preston and Lincoln Child, and Three Cups of Tea by Greg Mortensen and someone else.

Oddly, both books start in nearly the exact same geographic location.

thanks Opti. I've only read one of DKS's books - The Magic Carpet Slippers - which was good.

The Day Watch - Sergei Lukianenko. Awesome, as good as the other two, and then I'll have read the trilogy. A nicely cynical view of post-Soviet Russia and not at all the Russian J K Rowling, thank heavens!

Speaking of the Day Watch, Pratchett's Night Watch is due for (another) re-read especially as the Beeb are broadcasting a dramatisation (which is, of course, available for download) and a damn fine job they're making of it, if the first episode is anything to go by.
smiley - choc for the BBC

(speaking of Pratchett on TV - I've just noticed that The Colour Of Magic is going to be on Sky over Easter smiley - cool)

I'm reading *sigh* Eric Clapton's autobiography. Charitibly I'm hoping it's part of his 12 steps or whatever. It is dire. I've been half in love with the man for a loooong time. But then, I have never known _anything_ about him other than his musical output. Most of which I like. I'm really wishing I hadn't read it now.

I wish I had access to Sky, because I've enjoyed the TV versions of Pratchett so far. Animated versions of "Wyrd Sisters" and "Soul Music" are available on DVD here, and I got a copy of "Hogfather" from a mail order outfit in Cork. I'd love to see "The Colour Of Magic". smiley - envy

It's still sweet of you that you'd be willing if you were.

I think I'll start re-reading the Discworld novels soon. smiley - biggrin

someone gave me The Devil Wears Prada... I've been reading it as non-stop as possible for the last few days and anticipate that I'll finish tonight. It's hilarious - but the boss reminds me of a previous boss of mine (smiley - yikes) so it's also a bit weird.

I've just started re-reading Jurassic Park by Michael Crichton. The book's way better than the film, but I can understand why they had to leave so much out of the film. There's a lot of technical detail that can't translate to the screen, and certain things in the book would affect the film's rating (dinosaurs attacking babies, for example).
