I played tennis against Andy Fairweather-Low (he's no Pete sampras but he's not bad) a few years ago! He used to play for the Macintosh club in Cardiff - dunno if he's still there.

I know a bloke who worked as resident engineer on a plane used by Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II of the UK. This guy was a Welsh Nationalist and nearly caused an "incident" when he was told to serve canapés to the Queen.

One thing that is not really a 'connection':
Some years ago I guided a group of German and Italian teenagers to Salzburg. When we walked though the town we were suddenly urged aside by some security staff. The reason was that the Dalai Lama visited the town the very same day. He was no more than a couple of yards away.
I must say that I was very impressed. He really has some kind of aura around him (even more that the Pope has, imho).

Did the security staff push and kick? I like the idea of the Dalai Lama being ushered through the streets by a gang of heavies!
