2legs - Hey, babe, take a walk on the wild side... Posted Oct 8, 2007
No. The smokers used* to have a choice, and so did the non smokers, there are non smoking (were) non smokign pubs (uniformly in this area at least never full but one at least a very* good pub), now there is no choice.

hahahaha, thing is, most hardcore non-smokers just didnt bother and assumed all pubs were going to be smoky (from before pubs sometimes went without)... So now they can be confident they wont be smelling of other people's smoke/their eyes wont be watering and itching etc...
And you have the option of going to a pub with a garden/smoking area There's always a choice

Sorry bout the speechless part but it wasnt my fault as you see whilst i was sitting outside on my verandah having a moke(smoke)but my daughter Amber calls it a moke she decided to play on the computer and accidently pressed the send button.
Any ways over here in Aussie land as of 1st of July we were not aloud to smoke in pubs or clubs anymore as before that we were only aloud to smoke in the pokermachine area.
And as a smoker myself and the vast majority of my friends we didnt mind at all infact we found it better because even though we are smokers we were always complaining how sore our eyes would get from sitting around all that smoke for long periods at a time. And also on the plus side in summer it gets very hot over here so it is always much more pleasant sitting outside than in.But in winter it can be a pain as it can get quiet cold, not as cold as what it is in England, but its still cold our winters. And also when you drink you tend to smoke so going having to go outside to have a smoke i tend to not smoke as much.
What p#sses me of is when you see mothers smoking in their cars when they have children/babies in the car also wether the windows are down or not.Iy was only last week my partner and i were on our way shopping that we drive past this lady smoking in her car with a what looked like a newborn baby in the car with her and the window down the tiniest bit i asked my partner to slow down next to her so i could yell at her but he wouldnt as im very outspoken where he is very shy.
I have 2 small kids and there is no way that i smoke near them or any other kids for that matter.

My friend was a long-term smoker, had been for years, but the moment she found out she was pregnant, she stopped. She'd been trying for a couple of years, but had no real strong reason to stop, until she had a baby inside her, stopped dead, has looked back, but simply wont smoke now. She was tempted on her hen night (drunk and we were havin a fag outside) so I offered her one (tell her she cant have something and she'll get so bleedin stubborn!) and she considered it and decided that actually, no, it was just a physical memory habit and that she didnt want one at all, once she erally thought about it, she decided it wasnt so appealling... I was so proud of her.
I was shocked by how many heavily pregnant women were going outside the maternity ward for a fag while waiting to have their baby... I couldnt believe it... I dont like seeing kids seeing their parents smoke, if they see it, they are so much more likely to do it, and if you go away to do it, it just adds more mystery and 'grownupness' to it...

Yes i agree with you as my 5 year old daughter Amber knows we(my partner and i)smoke and she is always telling us that it is bad because she sees the anti smoking adds on television and the pictures that are displayed on the front of the smoke packets and she gets worried that it will happen to us.
And we have both lost family members due to smoking so you would think that we would give up.
I did stop during both of my pregnancies and once i stopped breastfeeding i got straight back into it.I dont smoke that much as i can never smoke a full smoke we always go halves in one and because my kids always want my attention it doesnt give me much time to have one.Youd think just the cost of smokes would make you give up oh and the damage that they cause you.Over here i pay $15.00 for a packet of 40s and we buy 2 packs a week. And thats between the 2 of us.So thats not too bad.I just have to stop making excuses for myself and just quit for good. When i was in hospital having Lola my 6month old i didnt see anyone going down stairs to have a smoke probably because i had to stay in the room i was in which was fine by me,but after i had Lola and i was put on the ward the amount of young girls aged 14 and up that were going outside for a smoke blew me away. Then they would come back to the ward and start feeding bubs straight away

Well, we're just fair-weather smokers over here.

I understand your euchness, Robyn, but I think you're missing a wider issue; you mention 'nicotine hands' but how many 'didn't wash after having a piss hands'/'handled raw meat but baby needs her dummy hands'/'stroked my cat and then let my teething baby suck my finger hands'/&c. are there in this world? I'm not saying that one shouldn't err on the side of caution but please think about the actual risk.
I smoke and I wash my hands before I let them go anywhere near my four month old niece's mouth (regardless of when I last had a smoke) but, apparently, the chemicals in my breath will do more damage than anything on my hands. I appreciate that tobacco smoking is a divisive subject but I wish that people- and I'm not targetting you, Robyn (you seem to have talked a lot of sense in the threads I've encountered you in)- would put aside preconceptions, look at the evidence that is available and only then, if he or she feels the need, sit on his or her high horse. I'm not saying that smoking is good for you but it may not be as bad for you as you think!!!!

It was certainly a personal view on the nicotene, although I would argue that while things like unwashed hands from using the toilet and so on sound awful and when allowed to get out of hand (no pun intended) can obviously cause and spread disease, being overly clean, I think, can be more harmful than healthy... The child is building it's immunity to natural 'toxins' if you like, it will have feaces and urine touching it's skin reasonably regularly and will suckle it's mothers skin regularly... For me, nicotene smells horrible and is something that shouldnt be near children because it IS a poison... Regardless of the evidence or otherwise, it's a poison. As is caffeine, alcohol... I would be equally concerned if someone uses a permanent dye on a child's hair...
I understand your point. My reaction to nicotene hands on children isn't a particularly concious one though, I dont think 'Oh how could they' I find myself recoiling, and I have recoiled when I've smoked and then been offered a baby to hold, I would rather not, myself as I dont feel 'clean'...
