Well at least the whale is suffering no longer

How do you know? It might have been a bad whale and is now suffering in whale purgatory.
On a serious note, what I take from this is that many people mucked in to try and help the poor whale. I don't think we can ever hope to alleviate all animal suffering. After all, there are zebras being ripped to pieces by lions right now.

We're a miserable bunch on H2G2. The Petty Hates thread is still going strong(ly) but the Petty Likes thread soon died. The Reasons To Be Cheerful thread rarely receives contributions but the Reasons For Being Miserable thread gets regular posts.

Swallow a biblical (or Disney) character?
Eat the leg of, and then harass, a fictional sea captain called Ahab?

"What do you have to have done in order to be classified as a 'bad' whale?"
It's the classic evil herbivore scenario:
"I will eat all the leaves on this tree...I will hide berries where no one has seen them...I am an evil herbivore."

You're confused, dear. Whales don't own trees. They live underwater.
