.. is failing in one aspect: User friendly
because it is hard to find your way... the big easy to spot buttons that say: This for that and that for this, is not to be seen, instead there is lots of links hidden in text. It's very confusing for the first timer. I'm sure it will be better with some hard experience, but I still get lost.
Other that than this website is very good. Easy to read-colors and not any annoying ad pop ups.. (there should be some kind of penalty, man..
Generally speaking I think that good design, some java to catch the eye and as little as possible "junk" and "stuff" all over the page is the best websites.

I don't know. I'm using the Alabaster skin and I find it quite user friendly. There's a row of buttons across the top and bottom of every page.
Generally speaking, I put "some java to catch the eye" in the category of "junk and stuff".

I have to agree, this site isn't terribly user-friendly. No Log-in button, links hidden in text, a whole lot of buttons I'll never use... No centralized forum *really* bugs me. The bottom-of-the page comments are interesting to read, and provide alternate opinions to an article, but you don't get to talk and socialize and get to know other h2g2 members easily.
And I swear, getting to some pages takes *forever* You have to go to a page, then find a link in that page, then find a link in *that* page, etcetera...
But as for the good things, the scheme (Alabaster) is very nice. It looks good, and doesn't hurt the eyes. And the content, obviously the most important part, is top notch
