I know what happens here - You need to clear your cache.. on a PC this is very simple and efficient
All you do is some option thingy in the tools box or something like that - depending on your system, but using a WebTV, it forgets all the files once you switch it off by the mains.
The reason your account is showing up in your son's name, is that you have visited pages he is NOW seeing. The WebTV thinks, "Hang, on, I've been here before... " and remembers it, so brings back the page in YOUR account.
By switching off & on again, it will forget all this ever happened and let your son back in.
How you SHOULD do this:
o Log out
o Let your son Log in
o Switch off
o Switch on
o Let your son Log in again
That should work - It worked for me using Telewest when I needed to login as the Musicians Guild - how's that for a shameless plug, hey, why not add a link, too? U150268
Anyway, I hope that clears things up

A note from experience, too - Don't hit the INTERACTIVE button to login to h2g2 again until the middle light has stopped blinking.. It won't let you in until its stopped. When it stops blinking it just means its connected to the internet securely I know sometimes it has bad days and won't stop at all, and no channels will show and blah blah blah... but that's cable for you

WebTV is the big verbal blanket which covers NTL, Bush Internet TV Web2u (although web2u isn't in existence any more, apparently), Telewest Interactive and ITV Digital On Net - or whatever they've renamed On Digital's "On Net"
In short, all the internet providers which use a TV or a set top box which goes to the TV.
Right, I'm going to tell you how to do this properly now - I think I forgotten a small detail..
What you want to do is, log in as your Alex ( I'm observant ) and then switch it off by the mains.
Keep the power button on the set top held in and switch it back on through the mains. In about 3-5 seconds you'll see "OKAY" appear on the LED light display. Let go of the button.
Next, press Tv four times and wait - Then carry on from there to log in to h2g2
If that doesn't work I don't know why, because that's exactly what I did when I used it!

Here's a link that does the same job as my discuss button <./>AddThread?forum=44441&article=359381</.>
When you unplug your machine, allow it some time to forget the stuff in the memory - there's probably a capacitor that enables it to cope with short power cuts and you have to wait for that to empty. If it uses a battery for backup instead, remove the battery.

logoff & unplug was the 1st thing i tried..logically..it should have worked..it takes 30 seconds for 'box' to upload memory..plugged in after 1 minute..it's not just email memory in box..it's all interactive memory..i won't mess with it..incase i loose everything....not tried akas latest suggestion yet..let's see what i've learnt last few days....the cookie is not reading alexs heading even when i logoff..log him in..arrive at his space as a visitor..i'm giving up on that..until i get pc sorted he can use my name & id himself..if he wants to..
re-who's online link..is it the same format as the orange whos online button..if so..that's why it won't work for me..i can't access that button..don't get 6200..just nothing happens..

The online link works for me. Try removing the spaces before and after the word 'online' and see if that makes any difference to you.
Follow aka's instructions carefully and leave the box uplugged for longer than 30 seconds - it may take 4 or 5 minutes to clear the RAM.

Hello emmily.
Do you mean the online link on your user space?
You have the Javascript version of the link and TV internet doesn't seem to like Javascript.
You can do just a simple link of online
I got that to work on my page using my TV set top box (although I have a PC now)
aka , web-2u (they are a dot com) are still going.
The web-2u box was available in the year 2000 from Argos stores in the UK which was how I bought mine. Then Argos changed to supplying the Bush Internet box and web-2u was no longer available.
According to their website the version 5 (an improved version) is now available but as I have a PC now I won't be buying one so that's all I know.

Yup! It sometimes took a while longer for me, too - Sorry I should've mentioned that
Web2u is still available, Brownfurby? I've been grossly misinformed!!
Amy: What's a pentogram?

emmily, does that mean you haven't tried aka's latest suggestion about the cookie problem? I think it would be good if you could try this, as once we know it works properly aka can put it in his help pages to help others.
Both the online and the popup conversations work by using Javascript and on a real computer popup in a handy window so you can see them at the same time as reading other stuff.
The online can be made without Javascript if your page is in plain text or in forums by
< . / >online< / . > but without the spaces in the brackets and looks like <./>online</.>
If your page is guideML you would use
online
The Popup Conversations is more tricky and I don't think it is much better than just looking at your conversations if you lose the benefit of the popup.
I got it to work in plain text by
http://www.bbc.co.uk/dna/h2g2/alabaster/MP151102?skip=?show=?s_type=pop?s_upto=?s_target=conversation
(note there is an _ between s and type and s and upto and s and target)
or in GuideML by using
Popup Conversations
Obviously 151102 is my own number you would have to put your own number in instead of 151102
People at the <./>GuideML-Clinic</.> may be able to help with coding problems on your page.

BrownFurby Posted Apr 15, 2002
Actually I'm not sure that the Popup conversations thing does use Javascript , perhaps it is the popups TV internet doesn't like?

Detective Armani Posted Apr 16, 2002
Well it didn`t work. Tried the plain text one. Tried to get it in goo and got alabaster. Than when i clicked on anything i got kicked out. Thanks for the advice though.
