h2g2 The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy: Earth Edition

Some 2 weeks back, I found a job ad - to which I answered - for a "conference organisation assistant". Not really my area of expertise, but as it said "English necessary", I went for it...

Last Friday, my Mum got a phone call from the HR lady (as I don't have a home phone, I put my parents', asnd as I live with them at the moment...), so the lady wanted to meet me.
So I'm meeting her on Friday 13th, 11am.
It's in Troyes

It's for 6 months, but better than nothing, plus I really need to work, because I think I'm going to go mad if I don't do something soon...

I'll keep you people posted on the developments.

Are the Communes faint memories of 1789? I didn't know that France was organised on the basis of "Communes". Is all of France made up of Communes or only parts of it?

think there is nearly 60, 000 communes JabsI think every bit of land is, except a couple of small bits like antarctica-i think the whole city of paris is a commune-aswell as the smallest hamlet: very interesting.



Are there many hippies in france i wonder?

"commune" is the French general word for town/city/village. It's an administrative entity with a mayor and a town council who are elected every 6 years. They still have to obey the State.
There are about 60000 "communes" in France, from Paris (the biggest one) to tiny little hamlets. Some hamlets aren't totally independent though, and part of a bigger "commune".
And then there are also "commune communities", which is basically several villages getting together so they can make bigger investments together.

I'm not sure about the number of hippies.
What I can tell you is that I don't know any.
... So there can't be that many, I suppose.

All those 'Drop Outs' dropped back in and are now running the country..
