Hello everyone. I know my journals aren't the most interesting in the world, but I'm going to be doing NaJoPoMo. Well, trying, anyway.
I'm going to be posting all NaJoPoMo posts in this thread. That way if you don't want to be ambushed by baby stuff every single day (given that's 99% of my life at the moment) I will not be at all offended if you decide to unsubscribe.
I may still make more general journal posts, but they'll be at my usual level of posting (so probably never!).
See you all at the other end.

Take care Vip. I haven't been able to get in here for a while so I'm not even up to date on the baby front yet!

I like hearing about the children of people I like, so I am looking forward to it. I'll just have to suffer if you post about anything else.

So, today is Halloween. I need to decide if I'm going to make a sign politely wishing all trick or treaters to have a nice night but NOT to knock on my door and potentially wake my sleeping baby, or to make some worm spaghetti, wear a lot of black and a hat and make them go fishing for their chocolate.
Let's be honest, I'm going to go for the former. What'd I'd really like to do is to rig up some clever trick, but I don't have any fun ideas. And they'll probably call when I'm in the middle of bedtime for , which would rather put a spanner in the works.

Up at 5:30 for what is becoming a regular time for 's morning poo, which is not something I'm pleased about. No idea how to stop it though. Any ideas gratefully received. His morning porridge has apricots in it...

Oooooh. I like the spaghetti idea. I shall steal it, not that we've ever had anyone knock on our door.
If you find a solution to the 5.30am problem do let me know. I remember the Star waking early until the clocks went forward again. And here I am reliving that experience this year, apparently. I was wondering if a few nights of putting the Comet to bed super late might reset her clock, but I am not sure I really want to try that.

I agree with you on the sleeping baby front – it's annoying. I think last year I took the batteries out of the doorbell and left the downstairs light off. That worked. Either that, or no-one came by.

I can't remember back as far as the 5.30 situation; but it will alter when is ready.
I love Halloween - mind you, I should do, it's my Birthday. As most of the youngsters around here know that, they come in droves asking for the witch. I make loads of different little 'witch' cakes and put red, yellow, green and purple food colourings in them - they look really I have pumpkins lit in both front windows; then I have loads of inside bits to make spicy pumpkin soup for the freezer.

I should stop being quite so 'bah humbug' about the whole thing really. Yes, certain parts of it annoy me, but that's no reason to write off the whole thing. I've come to terms with disliking elements of Christmas and managed to enjoy the rest, so I should be able to do the same thing today, right?
Actually, I've come up with a different solution. How about I make up a bucket of worms, decorate it a bit, and leave a notice on the door asking people not to ring the bell but to enjoy a spooky treat... if they dare! Ha ha ha ha (etc.).
On the other hand, it's due to throw it down tonight, which might put a bit of a dampener on the whole thing.

Go to a fishing shop, get a bucket of real worms. Don't put any treats in it.
Bah Humbug is my middle name.

You still put on your disguise though. You're not completely humbug-y. And I don't think you'd look good in black and white stripes anyway.

Yeah, I thought I'd join in this year. I don't normally, as I find it makes the site too confusing, especially as it seems to go on for days

I only do it on the day itself. It's a little bit silly, but for one day I don't think it will harm.

We had exactly one kid knock. Without a costume. But his mother was taking him round The fireworks are getting annoying, though, and the sirens to go with them. Glad I don't have a sleeping baby in the house!

Well that was a night I could have done without. decided it was getting up time at 2:45, so Mr Vip kindly rocked him to sleep for me (if I do it thinks it's milk time). When this didn't work, he took him back into bed with him, and they dozed until 4:45 when it really was time for milk. Then, it appeared to be a teething fit, which meant no sleep and lots of crying so poor Mr Vip couldn't get back to sleep until I finally gave up and just put on Waybuloo* in desperation. That always works, but means there was no hope of any more sleep.
*blinks*
Today we have the fun of a trip to Boots for more teething drugs, and then meeting with baby group for a (possibly rain-splattered) walk this afternoon. Now, if only I could wake up!
========================
In other news, the sign on the door appeared to work as we got no Trick or Treaters at all.
And in different other news, having actually looked at out finances properly we're doing better than I realised. I'd made rather a large assumption in my calculations which turns out to be completely incorrect, so we have more money free after bills than I thought (I thought we had virtually nil, turns out we have enough to feel relaxed about having lunch out occasionally and such). Now that *is* good news!

*Waybuloo is 's favourite children's TV show. It's very cute and they float around and are nice to each other.

We had no trick or treaters either, unless they came before I got home around 6:15pm ish. I don't know whether it was the lack of lights, the fact that many of our elderly neighbours have signs up saying 'No trick or treaters' or the extremely heavy torrential downpour that put them off.
I don't like Waybuloo, but always seem to watch 'Me Too' in the morning. Sadly, my day has never been saved by Granny Murray's thought of the day.

This post was almost brought to you at 5:30 from Tesco car park, but woke up and was so cute at me that I forgave him and bought him food so we could have breakfast in Starbucks. I had an all-day breakfast pannini (the amount of salt clearly marked this out as Not Baby Food), and he had some ring things. A bit like those onion rings that are more like crisps and have never seen an onion (http://tinyurl.com/caqfjqy), but smaller, made of decent ingredients and not as revolting.
Shopping for baby food is an interesting thing. Because I'm one of the hippy weirdos doing baby led weaning and firmly in the minority of mums, I find the majority of what's on the shelves at a supermarket a bit confusing. For example, these ring things were marked for 12 months plus, but I would have comfortably given them to at 6 months. Yet the things that have the same texture as a ring, but shaped like a Wotsit instead (http://tinyurl.com/brlwygy) *are* suitable from 6 months. Then again, quite possibly everyone finds these things confusing, because it Makes No Sense.
Key: Complain about this post
