Earl Grey?!

I hate Earl Grey. I prefer Assam or English Breakfast. Neither of which is good with lemon.

There's nothing like a good Darjeeling, though - but then I'm neither American nor English, and don't ever drink tea with milk.

Actually, I can't understand how anyone who claims to be a serious tea drinker (that is, a serious drinker of tea, not a drinker of serious tea...smiley - smiley...anyway) can even consider tea bags!

My preferred method is to mix the earl g. 50/50 with any black tea,
maybe an assam or darjee...but tea without milk (in first)is not tea.

That's exactly what tea without milk is: tea. Whereas tea with milk is tea with milk. Ie. something else entirely. smiley - cat Still, it's better than smiley - coffee !

There are many oppinions about milk here it seems. How do people feel about sugar in the tea?

Sugar in tea is vile. Tea without milk is less vile, but still not great IMHO. smiley - smiley

smiley - ok AlecTrician - a mix of EG & Assam is the dog's proverbials! smiley - smiley

I drink Earl Grey (or sometimes Lapsang Souchong) with neither milk nor sugar. My other half drinks PG Tips or equivalent with milk and sugar.

I am convinced that although we both describe what we're drinking as 'a cup of tea', there is no other similarity! IMO, tea with milk and sugar tastes of milk and sugar far more than it tastes of tea.

I prefer honey in my tea.

If you are an earl grey fan and you ever get hold of any real bergamot essential oil try adding a drop or two to a really high quality black tea and check the results, better than a bought one......

Sounds good! My mother sells more than 50 different kinds of tea in her shop. I've tried most of them, and I still prefer Himalayan teas - Assam, Darjeeling etc.

Earl Grey or another mild tea is best, I find, for day-long tea drinking sessions (you know the styleothing, from the first bleary mug in the morning to that nth cup at 3 am). Anything stronger makes the world go all wobbly by around 5 pm.

Hm... Instructions for newbies for making tea with tea bags... Yeah, why not? They have to begin *somewhere*...
I like my Earl Grey the way DNA describes it (or should that be 'prescribes it'...?), although I do prefer leaves to bags. The milk *has* to be poured first. It's obvious. But, he forgot the sugar. Won't do without sugar.
Here in Italy you are very lucky if you find a pack of tea bags in the shop with a best before date that's sometime in the future, so I was forced to convert to coffee... Not happy.

I have so much smiley - tea in my house it's unbeleivable. I have bags and leaves, but prefer leaf of course, but bags are simpler sometimes, and you can pop a few in your handbag wrapped in cling film to drink at work.

Must say, love earl grey, assam and ceylon, not too fond of darjeeling and I think Lapson Souchong ought to have been banned at the gates... Maybe just because the smell ( I refuse to say aromasmiley - winkeye) gives me headachesmiley - biggrin

My two cents: English Breakfast tea with milk AND sugar AND a pinch of each of the following: nutmeg, cinnamon, and ginger. Yum.

I have been drinking tea for a number of years now, and I would not classify Earl Grey as the 'typical' English persons cup of tea.

Hello Kaz - are you the non-smoking, love crystals Kaz, or another Kaz?

Oddly enough, we always drink Lapsang to relieve headaches in our house! Love the fragrance, always makes me think of rashers, mmmm...

Tea of all types. If I am forced to have a normal Teabag then I take a little milk and one spoonful of sugar. If I have been away in the bitter cold of some place or other I have the working mans Cuppa. Strong white three sugar. I have known some to have as many as six spoons!smiley - run

With Lapsang (Lap dog shoe snog) and any other Tea I would never dream of having milk or sugar. You lose the taste and that is the most important thing in Tea. I hate it when Tea is white. Someone just waves the teabag at the water and adds milk. I always make my own Tea so I can have it STRONG.

Coffee I love also but for me it is a recharge drink or a wake me up. Tea is to be enjoyed whilst relaxing maybe with smiley - cake

As for the aroma of Lapsang it reminds me of Bonfire night. Definitely not rashers but that could be because I'm a Vegetariansmiley - biggrin.

Where is your ideal place for asmiley - tea?

Enjoysmiley - tea

UnfadingAscendant - Above the ashes

I started drinking Earl Grey not long after I had tea at a friend of mines that, depending on my mood, I'd either describe as weak milk or strong water

I like the fact that it's called a 'Specialty' tea because it gives me an excuse to fuss about how it's made. I hate weak tea.

smiley - tea
