Following the unscheduled downtime this morning (25 August 2005) - which was due to hardware failure - we need to urgently replace some key components. We've scheduled this work for 6.00pm this evening. This site will therefore be unavailable between 18:00 - 19:00 BST (approx) while the engineers install the replacement kit. We do apologise for any inconvenience and hope you'll understand the reasons for this.

Oh, but... I shall be all alone in the library during that hour, manning the issue desk. What will I do without hootoo? smiley - wah I shall be forced to spin round and round on my chair until I'm sick. I'm not anticipating seeing any actual students during that hour. smiley - sadface

David

Seriously, hope all is well in the Towers and that all fixing can be done with the minimum of stress and hassle for all concerned. smiley - ok

Hee hee, I wonder if I can get away with that in the library... The smiley - silly thing is that the management don't like us reading books while we're on the issue desk, so (since the issue desk computers have no access to Microsoft Office, our own files or our special behind the scenes magical library abilities) we're almost forced to surf the internet when there's nobody in. Surely that looks less professional? smiley - weird

Oh you poor soul, I wish I had internet access at work full stop, I'm forced to read or knit. I'm ploughing my way through Brideshead Revisited at the moment, that'll keep me going until saturday if it still quiet

I'm very glad that we have it, but I am terribly perplexed by the idea that surfing the internet is fine, but reading a book isn't. Still, it won't be an issue for much longer. In a couple of weeks, there will be great herds of students charging through the doors, and the idea of a quiet moment will be a distant memory...

Anyway, um, smiley - doh, I can't think of a way to say something on topic.

Servers. Yes. Hmm.
