25 May, 2005: Hitchhiker's Guide Exhibition Opens

Post 1

The H2G2 Editors

We've received word from our chums at the Science Museum in London of their new Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy Exhibition. This is your chance to see over 200 props, creatures and costumes from the movie at close range, including those oh-so-sexy eight-feet-tall Vogons and the Guide itself. Please be warned - this exhibition also features Vogon poetry readings. Sorry about that.

The exhibition opens on 28 May - visit the Science Museum's website for more information: http://www.sciencemuseum.org.uk/hitchhikers

I would *love* to attend a Vogon poetry-reading. smiley - love

I would also love to take Vogon language lessons. (Hey, if they can create a language for Klingons, they should at least come up with one for Vogons smiley - cross)

C Hawke

they came up with the written language for the film, basically Shorthand but with more regular edges, everything in Vogon text in the film has a meaning in shorthand. The guards have something like "Kill" on their sleeves.

The Vogons speak a dialect of the language spoken by all Civil Servants and politicians, surely?

Shame about the location. London is a bit like the Hyperspace Planning Dept on Alpha Centauri for mesmiley - yikes

Interesting as the exhibition looks, has anyone looked at the admission prices? Yes, the Science Museum is free, but not if you want to go to special exhibitions...

http://www.sciencemuseum.org.uk/visitors/location.asp#admission

It's a little bit on the expensive side!

I'm not really here

Sometimes the exhibitions tour to other countries, so you might be lucky!

Thanks for letting us know Eds, I hadn't heard of this before, I'll make sure that we go! Perhaps not at half-term though. All those kids around...

Galaxy Babe - eclectic editor

There's nothing on the meet webpage about the museum, EV?smiley - erm

Do we have to book tickets?? I remember turning up for the Star Trek exhibition (before museums were free) I paid to get in - then found out I had to pay almost £8 more to get into the Trek exhibition. I was so disappointed I walked out.

I don't mind paying £8 to see the Hitchhikers exhibition now the museum's free!smiley - magic

What time are people meeting at the museum?

Or, is this topic being discussed at the meet-up page?smiley - grovel
