I suppose it depends on your point of view. What you mentioned in your journal is obviously the downside, but I believe they had more personal freedom than other Greek women.
Thanks for reading!

"Young girls were also forced to strip for religious services..."
The Spartans carried out many activities naked, regardless of their gender.

And they ran the estates - if there husband was off at war/barracks, who was going to run the estate, provide for the children, and various other things.
I had intended to do a guide entery about this (spartan women) but never got round to it. Suffice to say they probably as much freedom as a man from Athtens (providing, of course, they were of the right class).
They also rarely had escorts as such - who needs an escort when you can do the job yourself.
But, like I said, it depended on class and various other factors, but usually they were tough as old boots

You should write it, Asmodai, I'd love to read it. We'd end up with 2 very complementary entries.

Hmm I might. It'd also give me a good reason to finish off the article I half began on spartan men.
Hmmmm

Go for it.
Sparta is a brilliant contrast to Athens and shows how the city-states were not all the same. Too many people think that 'Greece' was all the same and it was all like Athens.
