OK, so RainForest....

Don't know why but I'm inclined to risk the Klaxon by saying Borneo....

(pretty sure I'd get a smiley - bluelight if I were to complete the other thought - which is the name of an online bookstore....)

Where else do they have Rainforest?

Indonesia
Australia (but all native mammals are Marsupials (?))
Thailand (?)
Steering clear of South ....

Oh, and it was said that the creature was a Herbivore, when Porcines are (or tend to be) Omnivores....

Keith Miller yes that Keith Miller

GT has already indicated that it is in S.E.Asia,ABTD, so it wont be the rainforest named after the worlds biggest river(in flow).

Countries that have some rainforest left include Thailand (already mentioned) Cambodia, Vietnam, Parts of Indonesia (already mentioned and including Borneo), Laos and the southern border regions of China where it touches these countries has rainforest as well.

I know that a species of deer long thought extinct has recently been rediscovered in Vietnam but they are not Porcine unless it's in their eating habitssmiley - laugh.

Just reread the thread...

Ok so its indicated that its in se asia.

Its also on the iecn list? dunno why i missed that, i had in mind it was only to be found in zoos but that implies its still in wild doesn't it, but seriously endangered...

Babyrussa babyroussa (sp?) But its not exactly the same spelling so didn't put that before. Its a pig in Indonesia (?) don't know about rainforest though...

By Jove I think he's got it!

In on of Patrick O'Brian's Aubrey-Maturin novels, they're stuck on an island in Indonesia and shoot most of the barbirossas, so it was a name in English as well.

Barbarossa means 'red beard' and was the nickname of Frederick the first, one of the late Roman emperors. I think he started out as a German king, and kind of spread. He's another of these rulers, like Arthur, and several other Celtic types who I can't remember, who are not dead, but merely sleeping until their country needs them.

The Babirussa, (there are a few ways to spell it! inhabits Sulawesi, the Togian Islands and the Moluccas. Although closely reated to pigs, Wild Boar etc, it seems that one of its closest relatives is the Hippopotamus!!!

Diet consists of fruit, nuts, leaves and the occasional insect.

Will post scores soonest.

Well done all!!!

Wished I could have taken Borneo back as soon as I hit post...

But:

"Diet consists of fruit, nuts, leaves and the occasional insect." Implies Omnivore not just Herbivore...
