In the 1970s, a bird caused a sensation!!
Why??
What specific breed was it??
Where was it seen??
What was it doing??
As usual, Google and Wiki forbidden....
List makers beware! There are many klaxons for non-specific bird breeds!!!
Enjoy!!

Or the crow (or rook) that proved that rooks (or crows) knew how to count?
They did it by hiding things and making them reappear. If not enough reappeared the corvite would wait for the rest. You can do the same trick with babies.
Though I prefer McKay's answer.

Difficult to expand without recourse to references _ I tend to just throw up things from the back of mind - and trust me - there's a lot of room there.

Albatross were found to mate for life, returning to the same place year after year.

We are getting interesting without getting near to the answer!!!
I can see QI points here!!
If you have ever seen a 'Bird Guide', did you wonder why they all start with 'Gavidae' (Divers) and end with 'Corvidae' (Crow Family)??
Well, the Divers are considered to be the most primative of species, and the Crow family the most intelligent!! (It is not unknown for captive jackdaws to learn to talk!!!)
None of which gets us nearer to the answers!!!

The bird that caused the biggest sensation in the UK in the 70s was Rod Hull's Emu.
