The tree in my living room (a dream)
paulh, vaccinated against the Omigod Variant Started conversation Dec 29, 2009
My subconscious is sending me messages again.
I dreamed that there was a tree which had been growing in the middle of my living room for twenty or thirty years. The tree was not a problem at first. In my earlier dreams about the room, I had been very relaxed about sweeping the floor, with the result that the dirt collected and grew so think that grass and flowers started growing there. At some point, though, I started feleing guilty about being such a sloppy housekeeper, so I swept all the dirt together, put it in a large container, and planted a small tree there.
Years went by, and the tree grew as high as my ceiling. I regularly trimmed the top branches off so it wouldn't poke holes in the ceiling, but finally I looked at it (in last night's dream), and realized that the tree was getting so big that it really had to go. I turned around to get my ax and saw, and when I looked back at the tree, it had pulled itself up so that all saw was the container stuck to the ceiling. Poor tree! I never should have promised to let it grow inside! Anyway, I yanked it back down and evicted it. A very bad time of year to put a tree outside.
I feel so cruel and heasrtless!

You should. That is reprehensible. You are guilty of being un-environmental while in a somnolent state. Shame on you.

This one was my pampered pet tree. I deceived it into thinking it could enjoy my indoor paradise for the rest of its life. But it's funny how much warmth its wood gave off after I burned it to keep the house warm.

I believe that the Druids were mainly concerned with protecting oaks. This tree was not an oak. A birch, maybe, or even an aspen, but not an oak. But you wouldn't know that unless you had been in my dream. :-0

Many trees were sacred to the Druids, including birch. ( doubt they ever met a tree they didn't like.) Don't know about aspen - is that purely an American tree?
What I'm overwhelmed by in this dream is that - unlike the cucumber one, say - it has serious symbolism.
A long-lived tree indoors? Guilt over cutting it down? I mean, wow...
Above all, the massive symbolism of trees...tree of life, kabbalah, etc...the mind reels...

I mean, was Kether in Malkuth, and Malkuth in Kether? Is that why the tree was cut down? I am agog...
And then there is the musical symbolism...

The question is, are we talking Jungian here, or Freudian, or Reichian, or what?
You are aware that the first parable in the Bible concerns trees?
'The trees went forth on a time to anoint a king over them...' Judges 9

I mean, this could be heavy, man...

It was a non-Druid tree, Dmitri.
My grandmother died in 1978, shortly before I bought the place I live in now. I needed furnishings for the place, so my mother offered me the Tree of Life bedspread that my grandmother had made. By this time, it was falling apart, so I didn't keep it...

I'm a forgiving sort of guy. If I am nice to the trees, they will eventually realize that I am their friend, and they will protect me.

Hm. How forgiving are the trees, though?
