A Conversation for Being Pretentious
Face Off

Hey, I loved John Woo way before I ever saw Face Off. In case you don't know, John Woo is the awesome directing genius of such Hong Kong movies (henceforth, for the sake of pretension, called "H.K. flicks") as Hard Boiled staring Chow Yun Fat before his debut in Hollywood. Although, I rather enjoyed The Replacement Killers. For a Hollyweird movie, it did mange to capture the H.K. (Hong Kong, remember?) flavour (another great pretensious device for those of us who live in the states is to spell almost every word that ends in "or" with "our" instead). And I was also in the long coat look way before I ever saw Face Off. In fact, John Woo's dramatic use of wind blown coats was one of the reasons why I loved that movie.

"HK flicks" ?
Me like I suspect there's a claim for the genre-title trademark there, if you're quick.
Of course, the whole pretentious world is moving away from the Eighties tendency to shorten titles:
Remember "Romeo"? "Much Ado"? "Merchant"? (I think I even heard someone once refer to "Beth" - or was it "Mac"?)
Post-modern pretentiousness demands the full title, correctly pronounced. Which is a bummer, as I haven't quite figured out how to say "Se7en" yet.
