How do I know who I am??
Alien Started conversation Jun 9, 2000
There doesn't seem to be any other way to check out as which persona one is curretly logged on any more than to click the "my home" link or go to the front page... Where did the nickname from the "post to a forum"-pages disappear??!?!?

Thanks!
I already found a way to know who I am when waiting... I use different skins for different personas... But if you've got more than too it's pretty difficult...

i don't understand why someone would have more than one persona. Unless that person wants to cause problems or has muiltiply personalities(my bad spell). Personaly I think that having more than one registered user name per server is cheap, greedy, and I can't see a real need for it. That is my opinion and I am going to stick to it unless someone gives a resonably perpose for it.

If the Guide is to be used as originally planned, with people contributing information for a comprehensive HitchHikers' Guide to the Galaxy, Earth Edition, then only one persona should be necessary. If, however, some people think this is just a big chatroom, then I guess they need more than one persona to act out different scenarios?

Alien Posted Jun 14, 2000
I absolutely agree about having only one persona - those who have several are always confusing me and I think it's much better to have only one even if one thinks this is only one huge chatroom (which I don't - at least not completely... )
But the reason I'm split up as two is because of the Masked Ball in Damogran for which I had to clone myself and make the clone fit into the suit I myself couldn't fit in - it went all right as long as the ball lasted but now I can't get rid of the clone any more... And what's even worse, she's joined the S.T.U.M.P.E.D. which seems to be some kind of criminal association in h2g2... *sigh* So you can't really blame me, can you?

jimmiejaz Posted Jun 14, 2000
Well a clone isn't really two persona's now is it? A clone is you pretending to be you. Make your clone go to work so you can lay in the sun all day

I wish I could... But she got upset for having to go to the ball and now she doesn't even want to see me...

oh what a tangled web... poor alien!
Hi Heather Dawn! i left a welcome note on your page... did you get it?
hmmm.... i wonder........?

Archangel Zax Posted Jun 21, 2000
here's my little quandry.. when i go to welcome a new user, i often forget how they spelled their name- or worse- exactly which name it was! i always have to go back a page to double check, and even write it down, as i'm a bit of a fuddyduddy about that!
is there a way for the margin of the post box to read the USER name the forum thread is related to?? sorta like how it already does on the user pages? ok, that's just my little bit of input for today...
oh! and i DO see this as a big chat site... but that's because
A)i don't have any actual input as yet,
B)i see it as a more productive use of my time to help out those who may at some point HAVE something to contribute,
C)that's where many of the ideas for entries get hatched, and
D)it's fun. flat out and simple, unadulterated fun...

Hi. I'm new here. I just wanted to say I have many names for myself, but I am still only one person. Sorry if this is irrelevant or if anyone finds it offensive (I'm not sure why they would, but hey...)
How do I know who I am??
C Hawke Posted Jun 21, 2000
One reason for having more than one (i have 2) is that in this one I stay a-sexual, ie try and avoid being thought of as male or female, hetro or other wise. I may however wish to write to forums where this stance is impossible.
Also this ID is known by several real life friends, I may wish to write about stuff I really *do not* want them to know about.
This one is used most, in fact the other rarely gets let out.

Being an honest and open person, I do not really understand that.
How can you post stuff on here that you are not comfortable your closest friends knowing? Seems a bit wierd to me, no offence intented.
In my mind, I would either tell everyone everything, or just say nothing.
As to being a-sexual and stuff, fraid I don't see the problem there either. If people can't accept what you say because they are cross-referencing it to your sex/age/hair colour etc, then I for one wouldn't bother debating with them.
But hey, takes all sorts, don't it?

It maybe yuo haven't yet delved into the murkier depths of H2G2 where there is stuff that I certainly would never tell the majority of my friends. Try: http://www.h2g2.com/A276671 http://www.h2g2.com/F3528?thread=4139 and that is just some of the depths I have read (not contributed to (much) believe me in the darkess celar of H2G2, in the locked filing cabinet, behind the sign saying "beware of the leopard" there are a lot worse :-)

look in the mirror, if you dont recognise the person staring back you are not who you think you are. then again who do you think you are ?

"If people can't accept what you say because they are cross-referencing it to your sex/age/hair colour etc, then I for one wouldn't bother debating with them."
This being the real world, there are no other types of people. Stereotypes are alive and well and pretty much universal. That said, it's actually fairly difficult to maintain an asexual front - it's all too easy to slip up and add a gendered pronoun somewhere where it's not wanted...
MyRedDice - shakes her head at the incompetence of some people...

C Hawke Posted Jun 23, 2000
Some valid points, but under C. Hawke I do not believe I have ever "slipped" up (would be interested if MyRedDice can find a slip up), the reason for my stance on a-sexuality is historic. You may note from my home page that I am a veteran of a very old chat network called NEWT, at a very old Polytechnic. Whilst limited to one campus, with many buildings and slack sercurity many people could log on anonymously, just like here. Some thought it was funny to pretend to be the opposite gender (nearly all males pretending to be females). One particualy obnoxious character got off on it big time. He failed to see the funny side when someone returned the favour to him.
After going there, doing that, I stayed clear of e-communication till last year, when I did sell my soul and get a PC, I decided I would not go back to that sort of thing. Accept me for my words.
However having said that, the second ID is occasionally useful, especially when revealing more than I would normally do so.
FYI any other refugees from NEWT will know me, my sex, sexuallity and hair colour. They will also know what the C in C Hawke really stands for (not Chris). I am still looking for any other survivors.

Does it really matter who you are , weather a-sexual or what ever people will pre-judge you any way . I have long hair wear loads of earings not all in my ears , I often hear coments which would turn the air blue , but I am me ,what ever me is and enjoy being it I have many friends who enjoy me being me so I just carry no being what ever it is I am . Hope this is helpful .

C Hawke Posted Jun 23, 2000
"pre-judge"... this assumes that the rest of the world know your features, sex, age etc. The beauty of this, and other sites, is that you can keep a lot to yourself. Any judgement is based on what you say. If you dislike what I say it is because you dislike the contents not the container.
I am sure there are racist, sexist, homophobes and other bigots on this site, not many as this site does seem to attract the open minded, but I do not want to be flamed because of my race, sex etc. Slag me off as much as you like for what I say.
Also, I see sites as this as a way to escape the bigotry of the real world, Monster says he/she hears comments that turn the air blue, well here the only comments will be based purely on what you say. You can find such a cross section here that you will always find allies and oppostion. But, again, and sorry to labour this point, any opposition will be based on your words.
Maybe as we enter the 21st century, the net will break down certain layers of intolerance, but then pigs may get boarding passes.
Once again a thread has evolve way passed it's original point. So this will be my last word here, unless directly questioned on the subject.
Have Fun

NEWT? Bog in heaven, did you telnet into the system?
I shall say that anyone how assumes sex, race, age, yadda yadda, yadda, from a user name is such a close-minded S.O.B that they should get a few lashings of the ol' ultra-violence.
Who the F#$K cares, I prefer to look at the posts by intelligence of the argument, I don't care "what" you are, just if you interest me and if I have have something of value to add(most of the time). Male-female-trans-sexual, is there really a difference?
To go back a few posts, I agree, if you don't want your friends to see what you really think., are they really friends? or are you trying to hide something from yourself? real friends accept you for everything that you stand for, they may not agree with it, but they will still be your friend, if they were one to start with.
Just a thought.
