I applaud the researcher. The information is is a good general description of the goth mindset and society. It is only a baseline of course. I've seen the scene all across the United States and it takes a slightly different form every where I go. This is a good thing; it has not been consumed and spit out again by pop media money grabers who would try to package it and make it average. Of course that is the beauty of the goth society. That will not happen because the drones of the world will never get it and therefore not want it. By making goth average and the same everywhere wouldn't work because it would not be goth anymore. I have my own personal take on music and what I like: "and Marilyn Manson is gothic industrial and I like it, but it is not liked by many goth people- i think it's the seemingly sell out thing that scares people and the attention to the "dark" side it causes that might be kinda scary"

I believe the core of goth is the appreaciation of sensuality of all forms and the spirituality that is somehow a part of it. I'm not talking traditional god stuff, but a realization that our world is trying to turn us all into robots.

I haven't read any other posts yet, I will now.

Tube - the being being back for the time being

Thanks for that! smiley - ok I'm really glad that no-one has as yet told me that the entry is complete and utter rubbish.
Sorry for not replying earlier smiley - grovel, but I just didn't get around to it...
Yes, the scene is different all over the world; that's why I resorted to a general description. Some of the stuff in the entry is not even my cup of smiley - tea, but seems to apply to a lot of others. smiley - shrug
And I agree with what you call the "core of goth" smiley - cheers

There are a couple of other Mercer books too: The Goth Black Book and The Book of Gothic Rock i think they're called. Not terrifically good though.
