Do you have any bank holidays in April(May we'd have to consider?

We're a bit rubbish at that in the UK but Easter is the long weekend of the 6th-9th April, and the first and last weekends in May are Bank Holiday ones too.

h2g2 is 8 in April! No Bank Holiday for that one but we don't even have St Georges Day .

It would probably be a good idea to avoid the London Marathon weekend too. People coming for the meets often make plans for the Sunday, mini meets or museum trips etc. Next year this will be the 22nd April.

Ok, taking into account all that, which weekends would remain?

April would be the best month for me.

The two best dates for me travelwise would be April 14 or April 28.

Actually, I just lied. April 7 would be better than the 14th, but since it is Easter weekend, that is probably a bad idea.

Mighten may be better for weather? though thinking about it both can be highly highly variable in that respect

Or if we do it on May 5, I would be in London for my birthday.

Possible dates:

Saturday 31st March (almost)
Saturday 7th April - probably out because it's Easter. We might have difficulty finding a pub open in the City too, hotels harder to book etc.
Saturday 14th April
Saturday 21st April - probably not a good plan due to the Marathon weekend, road closed, difficulties for people who like to use the Sunday too, hotels harder to book etc.
Saturday 28th April - h2g2s actual 8th birthday
Saturday 5th May - May Day Bank holiday weekend, might be marches, riots etc.
Saturday 12th May
Saturday 19th May
Saturday 26th May - Bank Holiday weekend.

Don't you think we should celebrate h2g2's 8th birthday if possible?

Thanks for that, coely. In light of April 28 being our 8th birthday, I will vote for that date. Am I supposed to start a conversation for it?

Bank holiday weekends might seem a good idea, with people off work, more likely to be able to attend?; But I think finding a venue in London, or anywhere for that matter in the evening for a Saturday on a bank hol weekend might be like trying to find a welk in a supernova The weekend of HooToos birthday sounds a grand idea; might help us publishise the date/event more widely and hopefully get more, and more new atendees

No, its' OK, I'll start all the voting threads, having been officially appointed "the person who can add up" by 2legs. I just need to know which ones are not worth bothering to start a thread for. What's the feeling about the Bank Holiday weekends?

I'd say BHs are a mistake - anything planned for the day would be a crowded nightmare.

That's my feeling about the BHs too, and often transport isn't quite the same as an ordinary weekend.

There's no real tradition of the h2g2 birthday being celebrated on the actual day. The 1st birthday meet was the 13th May 2000 for example. Just getting the same month would be good.
