i was in the Royal Navy from 1963-1971 AND IN 1966 I WAS SENT FROM SOUTH AFRICA ON BOARD THE FRIGATE HMS PUMA AS A PLANE WITH 2 PEOPLE HAD "INVADED " THE FALKLANDS (they were Argentinians). I cannot find any record of this on the web and wondered if anyone new anything about it. By the time we got there as it took 7 days they had left and all we did was play football against a local team on a pitch with more sheep than players. The 25th Anniversary has brought this to mind that is why I ask the question.
Thanks to anyone who may help.
PS at the time Sir Francis Chistester was sailing around the world and we escorted him around the Cape

If you're still interested, I'm just finished reading a book called "Message from the Falklands", letters from a D.Tinker, who was killed on the Gloucester. I thought the whole mess was contrived at the time, but hearing it confirmed by someone in a position to appreciate the extent of the SNAFU, and the unspeakable nature of Thatcher and Co was worth the read. I also had pals on the Canberra who left the Merch as soon as they got home in disgust.
I dont agree with what goes on under the disguise of propping up governments by slaughtering people, but I appreciate the dedication of those of us who opt to defend the country, and get dragged in by default.
Stay bright
