Passport arrived yesterdaysmiley - biggrin

I expect to start booking a flight and hotels this week. From what I have looked at I should arrive about noon Friday and head south about noon Tuesday (forgive me Thingitessmiley - shrug) by train.

I have been studying the top ten things to do in London, and a Pass is on my list of thing to purchase.

That said, having a chance to visit the city with a resident, I would most like to see places you find interesting and get the insights of a local. Perhaps a walking tour like they did in Manchester?

I am really open to leaving this to your expertise, Although I would like to see a bit of historysmiley - blush

Events in London 27th September

I may add some more as I find them.

The Great River Race (From Millwall to Ham)
http://totallythames.org/events/info/the-great-river-race-2014

London Oktoberfest
http://www.skiddle.com/whats-on/London/Kennington-Park/London-Oktoberfest/12133144/

There's always the museums etc.
The Imperial War Museum has recently been refurbished and could be worth an h2g2 visit?

No 11 Bus (the cheap sight seeing tour !!)

Maritime museum at Greenwich, DLR one way river boat back.
you get a good view from the clippers and there is a discount for travel cards etc.
Greenwich is only zone 2 so not that expensive for a travel card.

Hi FS.

Having purchased a ****** Pass (frill in City of choice) I've come to the conclusion they are not good value, unless seeing a minimum of three attractions a day. Depending on how long you are visiting London, and the dates, I may be able to help with visiting attractions, with possible reductions. Friday 26th is Open Museum day at the Natural History Museum, so likely to be there most of Friday.

Saturday, the IWM looks good, having never been there, with the Shakespeare's Head evening Meet being the highlight.

I can get free entry for a guest to:

Royal Academy.
Tower of London.
Kensington Palace.
Banqueting House.
Hampton Court.
Tate Modern and Britain.
Kew Gardens.

I can also get Bogof's on most events if you are happy to be my 'carer' for the day. Doesn't entail anything except helping me get through crowds, wherever they may occur. With my Art Fund Pass, I may be able to get 50% off other attractions.

BB, was also thinking of Southbank as a venue.

Probably best to be guided by what FS and other attendees want.

London is a bit big for a walking tour, and MMF has limited capacity for that, but I can toddle around quite a few bits.

I also have limited capacity for a walking tour. Accessible tourist attractions are better for me, as they have documented facilities.

I like Kew Gardens, but the Imperial War Museum sounds good, too, as it is many years since I last visited it.

I did not mean we should walk the length and breadth of the City Centresmiley - facepalm only that we might choose our own tour rather than a package. I will certainly be more than willing to help others who need or wish my help.

My wife (who has declined joining me as she does not want to spend that much time travelling) always accuses me of walking too far when we are on a trip.

As I said, I will be happy with whatever the others decide.

MMF I will drop you a note in the next few days, thanks.

I'm not sure these days about the tour buses smiley - bus - I would hope things improved since the last time I went on the London tour (when I was younger and with both my parents so they could lift me up the steps). I went on a city tour (not London) in 2005 and there was an accessible bus, so we waited for that one at each stop we made, which was much easier.

I prefer the idea of picking one venue for the afternoon meet, though...

Both the Tour Buses and LT No 11 claim to be wheel chair accessible, however both say they can only carry one wheelchair and being double deckers that's presumably down stairs where the view is not so great.

Kew is a bit pricy and the IWM is free. Plus I wanna see it now it has opened again and after taking son's class to Kew on a school trip I can... well, let's just say I'd like not to go back for a while. Screaming nightmares, y'know.

OK, that's a joke. Kew is great, but my vote is for the IWM.

Or the Southbank, which might be more fun for FWR. I think he should get the final word since he is coming the furthest.

Or Hampton Court. I like Hamton Court. Royal interest! Joint h2g2 entry potential! Does cost, of course.
