Amy the Ant - High Manzanilla of the Church of the Stuffed Olive

*jogs through in her new 'Run for Life' t-shirt*

The t-shirt and natty hat have arrived so it's time to start training in earnest. I'm wearing the t-shirt - I may as well, before it goes in the wash - but not the hat. The streets of Leeds aren't ready for an ant in a bright pink hat just yet.

Day 1: Run 1 minute, walk 1 minute for 10 to 15 minutes. How hard can it be?

I have found that time behaves differently at the gym, it goes slowly when I'm puffing away on the cadrio stuff, the just as I start the relaxing stretches and cool down, it speeds up again.

Keep it up Amy smiley - ok and don't forget your smiley - towel, I never exercise without mine.

smiley - erm I don't think just reading about exercise works very well, 2legs smiley - winkeye.

I have a rest day tomorrow. Well, I'll go to the gym but I won't do anything on the treadmill and the training instructions say not to do weights with the legs. I'll be running again on Thursday.

The Race for Life is on May 26th.

Hi Amysmiley - smiley
Well done Amy, I really admire anyone that can do any running! Me, I did the London Strollerthon a few years back for Save The Children. It took most of the day and 10 miles has never seemed so long, especially the last 2. And that was strolling!! I did raise £2,500 so it was worth it, but as for running - count me out!!! So good luck and keep us posted on how the training is going, I am with you in spirit even if the body is cream crackered!smiley - ok

I did run to work in the winter of 2001, my bike had a bent wheel and I couldn't be bothered to walk, that was about 5km.

ok so my kind of running is classed by everyone else as fast jogging but to hell I managed it in 30 minutes smiley - biggrin

Best of luck,

Martin Owens

I'm aiming to run the 5k course without stopping and to do it in 30 minutes. However, running for one minute is a challenge at the moment smiley - winkeye.

In answer to Smudger, yes it's a sponsored event. The money is for cancer research.

I'm back from the gym. I did my usual 35 minutes of cardio and then 15 minutes of upper body weights.

My left knee (back leg) is a bit dodgy. I'll have to keep an eye on it.

smiley - erm I don't think there's a difference between ant-running and ant-jogging smiley - silly.

I'm following the training programme provided when I signed up for the run.

That made me laugh out loud. Yep, there's the problem in a nutshell.

I'm off again in a moment. This time it's 1 minute running, 1 minute running. Just like last time really except that I have to do it for 15 minutes - I'm not allowed to wimp out at 10.

*goes to warm up*
