how do i become a lifegaurd? I'm new to H2G2 and am looking to get involved in whatever aspects of the community I can.

Well - it's easy. First you ask to be a lifeguard - and then you try and think of a title. Something to go after your name ion the lifeguard list. It can be anything (but not too dirty please, Vicar! ), preferably witty and bizarre - and that's it.

i could be the lifeguard who constantly draws spirals in the sand signing any number of "They Might Be Giants" songs.

Okay - you are now an official H2G2 Lifeguard.
Now what you can do is head over to the Beach, Pool or anywhere in the waterworks - and just go into conversations and act as a lifeguard, helping those in danger of drowning.

It's as easy as that.
