I thought about saying 'at least she is no longer suffering', but that is so trite.
Let me just say that I am so sorry for your recent loses

The length of this thread (more than four and a half years) is a testament to your devoted love. When we met your mum, it was easy to see how cherished and well looked after she was. Take some of the reflected affection from your family and friends to look after yourself.Walk along that beach when the sun shines and know that your loved ones are at rest and how significantly you contributed to that peace.

Thank you very much everyone
Keeping busy has been quite therapeutic, and I have been surrounded by family this week. Yesterday my sister and I registered Mum's death along with other errands and found time to have a back massage. Today me, my older brother, my sister and her daughter chose the plot for Mum's final resting place. It was the second one we were shown, and the robin singing from a nearby tree swung it. Then we headed back to Mum's for all the loaned equipment to be collected. Next we had an appointment with the funeral director (Barry) who is going to take care of lots of things.
Tomorrow I'm popping to see my brother and his wife before they head back to Nottingham then I'm having lunch with my #1 daughter and take charge of her house keys to care for her Rossi while she jets off on her next adventure. She returns on the day of Mum's funeral, but is hoping to be in time, fingers crossed for no delays.
My sister has already said her goodbyes as she heads off for their cruise tomorrow morning. Which leaves me alone with my thoughts and an emotional reunion next week with my younger brother Robert who has been away with his wife on their anniversary cruise. My sister managed to "Wassap" them on their ship, so they won't be coming home to an awful shock. I have kept notes to let him know what's been done and what needs doing. I'm not going to view Mum in the chapel of rest, but I have given Barry a lovely suit for her eternal rest.
Funeral is Friday 20th October at 11.30am, St Peter's Church, St Peter's Avenue, Cleethorpes. Family flowers only, donations in lieu to the church. Burial in Cleethorpes Cemetery approx. 12.30pm, followed by a wake at the Cromwell Banqueting Suite. Mum was a regular churchgoer when she was well and we have many happy memories of Dad in his NVA uniform and Mum laying poppy wreaths on so many Remembrance Sundays at that church that I have lost count. This year's will be poignant now both have gone.

my younger brother returned from his holiday last night and we had an emotional reunion today. Yvonne returns from her hols tonight, and our older brother is travelling over from Nottingham tomorrow so we can have a family meeting at Mum's house tomorrow afternoon. Hopefully it'll be just a case of crossing is and dotting ts, or summat like that... fingers crossed... I need a holiday...

We're all systems go for the journey to the church for the candlelit service and overnight stay for Mum. Keith & family are arriving tomorrow and commandeering Mum's house, I'll be turning up at 4pm with my youngest son ready to travel with the cortege to church. Apparently we're all going back to Mum's house afterwards for "drinks" but as I'll be driving Andrew home and want to be fresh for Friday morning I'll be sticking to
I only found out yesterday that the church pews are going to be decorated with bows before Friday's service, as there's a marriage blessing at 2pm and the bridal party wanted to decorate the church before our funeral. The vicar rang me for our permission and I agreed. Mum would have loved it. I told the funeral director next time he rang, and he quipped: "shall I cancel the Red Arrows then"? Bless. My sister Yvonne has got one of those photo cakes with Mum's portrait on, we delivered it to the wake venue today. And there's lilac balloons ready for the room and at Mum's house. We've been clearing Mum's house this week, and we found some love letters and poems from Dad to Mum of varying dates between 1941 (when they married) and 1978 (when Mum went on holiday with Yvonne). We both cried, theirs was a true love story which lasted a lifetime. They have been put in a folder for the grandchildren to read at the wake. I doubt there'll be a dry eye in the place.

What a wonderful discovery those letters must have been.
I do hope everything goes well tomorrow and there are smiles as well as tears

Everything went as planned, I even got rather tipsy Friday night as I wasn't driving and kept being plied with Malibu. My sister was more sozzled than me, so we decided to take this weekend off clearing Mum's house. Back Monday morning.

Here we are, it's been a year since Mum passed to her eternal rest. I'm busy with my son this afternoon and Yvonne is at work but her eldest is meeting her from work and they're heading for the cemetery where I will be, with or without my son, I don't yet know. I found some wooden painted multi-coloured roses in the Hospice shop which were an absolute bargain at £1 for a dozen, I bought 3 bunches. They'll brighten the grave vases
How much my life has changed in this year. I'm working at a job I love and have another grandchild on the way
