let's all toast the little fighter on his first birthday
I nipped out last night before I went to bed as it was so clear and the moon made it very light, but with my back to the moon I turned my binos on Jupiter and also saw close-by Deneb (I think) I will check that tonight on my astronomy softwear. Lowering my binos but still looking in the same direction, astonishingly a large, bright meteor sped soundlessly over my head, for a moment I was perplexed at what I'd seen, almost like the ghostly javelin of a long dead hunter, could it have been an Orionid? It's a little early, the maxim isn't until much later this month (Oct 20-1) but I did write in my latest BATS column A57695386 that you can see shooting stars on any clear night this month. The Orionids stem from the Earth passing through the debris trail left by Halley's Comet and when you think that comet was logged by Chinese astronomers in 240 BC and probably many people saw it prehistorically
I came back in and texted my sister, on honeymoon in Cyprus, and she said it was a gift from our Dadfor me and Harrison
