Just now saw the pictures from the h2g2-meet in London - and boy, am I jealous! I hope for you that it was worth it!
(I realize this has nothing to do with your screen beeing black
still I'm jealous!)
love & hugs & kisses (a lot)!

Yes, dear, I know.
Croz, I use Internet Explorer.
And my daughter has the same monitor as myself and she has fantastic BLUE goo. I checked her settings, same as mine.
I am getting ~very~ peed off...I never knew the Astronomy Society badge had writing on the edge!!
So, any other suggestions before I throw this monitor on the nearest skip & buy myself a new one?

How does your page look if you log in from someone elses computer? If it's the same then you may as well give your monitor a pardon from visiting the big PC in the sky just yet.

Could be the graphics card then... or just overall wierdness.
Is your browser by any chance set to always use your colours instead of the page's? Although I think I already asked that...

How do I check my browser settings?
And I looked at my page on my daughter's computer...
A heavenly BLUE goo....
I asked her if she wanted to swop monitors...
She is thinking about it...
*wonders if a bribe will work*

It would for me - only I haven't got my own monitor
Can I get the bribe anyway ?
PS: Sorry to disturb a serious conversation. Can't help it. But it won't happen again. Hi!

OK.
1) Can your PC display the blue colour you are looking for at all? i.e. if you set your windows desktop to dark blue, does this show up?
If so, in Expolrer, go top the [Tools][Internet Options] menu and on the resultant options dialog window, click on the [General] tab and the (US Spelling!) [Colors...] button. There check that the "[x] Use Windows Colors" checkbox is set....
(If this is all OK and it's still B&W I'll need info about your monitor type and display driver....)

I have a perfect blue underneath my icons on my desktop...
And this little smiley {} is a perfect blue too.

The "Use Windows Colors" box was checked, Duncan.
My monitor is a Super VGA 1024 x 768 @ 75Hz on SiS 6326
and it is set to High Colour {16 Bit}

I really have no idea if anyone's suggested this yet, but anyway,
If you click Tools--->Internet Options it should bring up a form with a button near the bottom which says "Accessibility" on it.
Click this button. This should bring up another form which a check-box which says "Ignore colors specified on Web pages".
Make sure this isn't ticked

From further analysis of this problem GB's browser is translating (for whatever reason the colour #000066 into black, this is not an h2g2 problem (although you'd probably all worked that out anyway ).

My only suggestion therefore would be to make sure you have the most up to date drivers for your graphics card, and also perhaps give "Display Doctor" a go - there's a downloadable 21 day trial at: (URL removed by moderator)

hmm, I find it unlikely that it's a graphics card problem either physically or with drivers 'cos apparantly displays in blue perfectly well. I believe the problem lies with the browser (but then you don't know how much I hate Micro$oft's software). In an ideal world you could try downloading opera (URL removed by moderator)
(which is relatively small compared to some of the others) and seeing what colour it comes out as in that.

- this is a smiley used by technicians throughout the world for when they're running out of ideas.
I could always do what technical support at my old ISP used to do which is to tell every user with a problem (no matter what it is) to "re-install all the drivers and make sure your using the latest - for every piece of hardware you have. If that fails, re-install windows"
Or take advantage of the 20% discount at Tiny
