this is a very long shot, but bob, if you read this, can you do me a favour and search you computer for a file MFC42.DLL
and tell me which folders it is in. cheers

It is an aplication extenchion file...and it is in alot of stuff... your best bet to get it back is to reinstall windows because it part of thatand they hids allsort of stuf in windows and anyway even when you recreat anything from in ther it is never the same (trust me I have tried)

dont you have your windows disks there..if not I will tell you what files it is in and then you can..well sugest renstalling it if it dosent work

It wont let me see what is in them properly..but here is where it is
Windows\options\CABS\PWS =919KB
Windows\system =919KB
thats for windows 98 any way

Mine Win 98 is in C:\ Windows\System
and is 973kb
Does that coincide with any other suggestion?
