My cousin lost her baby this weekend.
She'd been pregnant, but was rushed into maternity on Easter Sunday gave birth to a premature baby girl (23 weeks) who hung on until Monday when she died.
We only found out about this by phone call from my aunt (who was understandably distraught) last night.
I was out all last night and only just got in to be told this.
They want no cards or flowers or anything apparently it's going to be an intensively private grief and funeral.
Not much we can do.
Some terrible news.

Well as far as she can be I suspect.
I'm a 3rd wheel in all of this I really don't know what's going on.

So sorry to hear your news, Clive
I've known a number of people who have suffered with miscarriage and losing infants, and most have gone on to raise happy, healthy families. Hope your cousin does too.

It's difficult for a woman to be in that position. The body's hormones prepares for one outcome, and reality dictates quite another.

In a strange way - it's not my loss.
I knew my cousin was pregnant, but the baby died at only 24 weeks so it wasn't like she was due anytime soon.
Her and her husband, and her immediate family (my aunt, uncle etc) have just gone into seclusion - so it's like we are not involved at all.
We got an email from them today explaining one or two things but just saying how grief-stricken they all and it breaks their hearts to see their own children preparing for the funeral of their first grandchild.
Many will know me on here as a fierce and outspoken atheist, however my extended family (on my dad's side) are ardent catholics so to have all of this over Easter - of all times - has for them I think just riven them.
We also found out the dead child's name - there was time enough for that before she died. Achieving parity between this thread and another her name was MARY KURN, named presumably for our shared Grandparent Nanna May (Mary) Healy.
