If you tap on the monitor and it flickers chances are the blue gun (three guns red blue and green git the phosphor material on the inside of the screen causing the colours) is going out. Put up with it as long as you can then you may have to take it in for repair (fairly expensive if not covered by warranty) or replace it. For the technically inclined it can possibly be wave soldered to repair it, however working on monitors without the proper equipment can be dangerous.

The other thing T is to make sure the cables are properly connected at both ends cos if the cables worked loose then you can also get probs.

T, Phil has a good point. Always look at the simple stuff first. (Been too long since I was a repair tech) If you have good connections tho it still could be a gun going out.
