Ben!
I'm pleased to hear that MR gets more breathing room for her living space. That's gotta cut the stress down just a tad.
Thanks for mentioning the cards, Kelli -- I've *got* to include a Christmas letter this year, to tell about my hearing and my new address. It will be spendy, since I have to go the library or Kinko's to print them out, make copies, then buy cards, and more stamps. Bah, humbug.
On the other hand, if the cats keep misbehaving, I won't have to spend as much on presents, just shipping.

I've never thrown a Christmas card away in my life - I keep and file them, envelopes too...
...Hmm, weren't we talking about clutter yesterday?
I always try to send out Christmas cards at the beginning of December, along with a Round Robin letter (complete with a map showing the location of all the castles I've visited this year) and a crossword. I don't expect anyone does the crossword or reads the letter, but they have the option, and hopefully they think I've put a bit of effort into it. It's the one time of year I think that people you're losing touch with are likely to get back to you.
Then there's the "do I give cards out to everyone at work, the people who I like, or just the people who've given me cards?" debate. I still don't have an answer.

Mine is simple - if I can wish you Happy Christmas in person, you don't get a card. That's what they're for after all. So, none for work colleagues.

Vip, that's my policy at work too. It was also my policy in the village from 1999 to 2007, but by then DH was at home in the village and wanted to give cards to some people, and I was working full time and never saw people in the village any more, so I wanted them to know they weren't forgotten. (Prior to 1999 I used to dish out 'edible Christmas cards' in the form of Christmas cookies - but in 1999, the year we moved here, I just didn't have time to distribute them and they all went soft and had to be fed to the birds).
Anyway, it was handy this year, cos I was able to include party invites in all the village cards. Still haven't posted the rest yet, although I did the round-robin a fortnight ago.

I'm very pleased, MR, you get to stay in your home. I know that was an added stress you didn't need right now. Let's hope that's a good sign--there's a job offer in your near future!

Not having a good day. Annie died last night. I just buried her in the blueberry patch because that's about the only place where the ground isn't frozen. I have a heavy mulch on it. I'm going to go pick up prescriptions and take to Mother, then I plan to mope for the rest of the day.

I'm back from vacation and a brief bout of kitchen renovation. Not very sweeping renovation, mind you - just replacing some very useless drawers with big wooden shelves, upon which I will put colorful baskets. At least that's the plan. Right now we're realizing that the shelves we so carefully cut out are exactly the same size as the hole, so we're in the 'couch in the stairwell' dilemna.
Every year I think briefly about cards, then realize that there's no way I'm going to have seventy-eleven cards ready in time to send out so they'll get there before Xmas. Way too much work for that.
I do have to admit that I've kept every single card, including Xmas cards, that I've ever gotten. They go into a big decorative box. I don't know what I'll do when I fill up the box - I guess I'll throw them out and start over. Or make a giant Xmas collage with the bits.
> My VW Bug almost didn't want to start this morning. I don't blame her. Thank goodness for wool sweaters, socks, hats and scarves--now if only someone made a wool car cover.
FG, try a light bulb under the hood. It has to be on, and plugged in, of course, but the warmth of the bulb is usually enough.
