Asteroid Lil - Offstage Presence

Hello and welcome, or welcome back, to the Atelier. Matina is in working order, Peripatetic Warrior Monk and Eatsmice are back from the wars, and Amy the Ant has succumbed to the romance of soldiering. Can a female ant be a monk?

The shock of Spike Milligan's passing has greatly stirred the salonistas, and we are in the middle of remembering the cartoons we were raised on, not to mention the antique receivers we watched, some of us in black and white. No, the shows were in black and white, not us.
*looks momentarily confused, then recovers*

In other news, Solnushka recently passed Very Important Exams and Montana Redhead is now deliberating which college o bestow her learned presence for the purpose of acquiring the title "Doctah". Professor Tonks is up to his ears in work at college, so we are seeing less of him than usual. Fralein Grafenberg and Sporkulious Eglon appear to have had a valentine experience. Caerwynn has just restored a garage door to its bent hinges and our Scandiavian contingent, Titania and Bumblebee, are still recovering from a major snowstorm. Loneytunes, meanwhile, is basking in the Antipodean sun and making snide remarks about the rules of fashion. Hatifnat, OP and Bald Bloke are in and out, and Munchkin is burnishing a new waistcoat. 310% science fiction infection! I ask you.

Somewhere in the stony bowels of CLI, a small group are still on their way toward the site of a minor mechanical breakdown. Crater Labs is designed for maximum creativity -- this appears to be inversely proportional to efficiency.

Are you new to the salon! Come in, come in, have a seat on one of the red velvet sofas, and tell the maidbot what you'd like to drink.

So I drag myself through the backlog.
I kinda enjoyed the TV discussions, the reminded me about one b/w tv-set on my attic. I guess I should bring it down and use it in the kitchen.
The cartoon-discussion lead me to think that I am in a wrong place. I have only heard the names of most of the cartoons mentioned. I saw few episodes of muppets when I was kid, but it was over the finnish tv, so I didn't understand much of it. And you haven't seen the soviet cartoons. smiley - sadface

Don't worry Hati - I have hardly seen any of the cartoons mentioned either - but the Soviet ones were great!smiley - ok Quality films - or so I thought as a kid, anyway - haven't seen one in ages, so can't tell what I'd think today...

Muppet Show! Yes! Favourite character? Hmmmm... I liked Cookie Monster singing that... uh... Manam-manam Pa-paa-di-pa-da smiley - musicalnote

Lamb Chop - wouldn't know who that was, unless they had been guest starring in Nanny - uh - I just watch it to see the butler be mean to the blonde...smiley - blush

*sips coffee smuggly and ingests tablet, without much hope it has to be said... smiley - biggrin *

The soviet kids programme I like is the short films/sketches they have of kids acting up.

My favourite so far is when a small boy comes home in his cute pioneer uniform (think boy scouts with different colours) and announces:

"I got 5..."

[5 = A]

His mother and elder sister go wild, dancing about, putting on their best clothes and laying the table for a huge feast.

Boy just stands there.

Then he finishes:

"... 5 ones."

Well, it's funnier when you see it...

Don't worry Snake. It happens all the time. Think of it as being at a party where you suddenly catch a snatch of a nearby conversation.

It was a simulpost Snake. It happens a lot here. More than one person replying to a particular post at about the same time.
Most thigs here don't get ignored, it's just some seem to capture the mood of the salonistas at a particular time.

Snake, if you have checked the old conversations, you'll see that we don't say hi all that often, except when someone drops in for the first time...

...we see you, and if you post something you'd like to discuss, we will comment on it - mostly, that depends on the subject, interest, if we've got time or just popped in to leave a calling card and so on..

...and yes, if you're friend the dragon pops in, we'll say hi!smiley - smiley

Munchkin

Hallo to everyone, and so to business;
310% Science Fiction - Was helped by the fact that some of the emblems came from obscure British SF (The Prisoner, Blake's 7), so more likely to be noticed by me. But then I am <..> this close to buying UFO on DVD, so I think something may be short circuited in my brain smiley - winkeye
Cartoons - Happy childhood memories of Danger Mouse, Duckula, Postman Pat, Superted et al. Of course, being up north would often end up spending wet mornings in the summer watching the Gaelic equivalents, Donnie Murdo (Dangermouse) and Padraig Post (Postman Pat)

*Is finally through the blog, sinks exhausted down in a sofa.*
Hi Snake, pleased to meet you. smiley - smiley
Congrats, Sol! Did you really think you wouldn't pass? smiley - winkeye
One of the first programs I remember was the Clangers. I was so fascinated by the blue string pudding and the Soupdragon! Of course we only had a black/white tv, so I have just recently discovered that the Clangers was pink! I always imagined them as light blue..!
And I loved Professor Baltazar and the little Mole. And the russian cartoons, though I think actually most of them was made in Czhecoslovakia.

d'Elaphant, Sonny Fox was the original host on Wonderama. Bob McAllister replaced him. I rather preferred Sonny.

Back to work today. Lil, I've been tending after your cold. Let me know when you want it back. Please.

Snake, you have to tell us how you happened into that Majik Forest thread to start with.

/* Waves to Witty */

Have you noticed that being in the same time zone makes it harder to communicate? I have more simulpost with you than with anyone else.

And I spent too much time online yesterday - I found a site with the entire history of Wonderama. Sonny Fox was the 3rd host! There was also a 7-year waiting list for tickets, which explains why I never got to be on Wonderama.

Sorry to interupt the conversation flow, but someone mentioned Bozo T. Clown! Yeah! The Bozo Show rocks! You know, they only recently cancelled that show this past year. After 40 years, 2 different Bozos, about twelve "side-show" clowns, and several time slot changes, Bozo left the air.

I was . I taped the final episode, but found out later that the video recorder wasn't working. I was smiley - blue for days.

So many shows to be nostalgic about, so little time....
