A Conversation for M2M2 - The H2G2 Lesbigay Area

Anybody out there?
Sorry, deliberate reference to half a dozen first-posts to convos in this here area.
Having read this: A707087 and a lot of the convos here (day off, hence me being over here like a rash) I have to ask whether anybody wants to give this place a *real* kick up the booty and get it up and running again (beyond the current fortnightly re-awakening of an old thread).
I end up posting stuff in 'Ask' (nobody mention the 'penis' thread. Please) which would be better suited here. It's a great place that shouldn't be allowed to die!
I don't know much about gay history/culture etc, being straight acting, non-scene and with few gay friends, but will be happy to contribute what I can if we can decide on a direction to take.
Come on peeps, since this place started Little Britain has featured gay characters, Russel T Davies has (possibly) 'queered up' Dr Who and a Westlifer has come out. We live in interesting times. Let's have a bit of a party and get out thinking caps on! Hang on, they're mutually exclusive. Still, you know what I mean.
Anyway, a really bad idea that'll never happen: an M2M2 meet. There. I said it. I'm sure I know at least one researcher who'd turn up (no prizes...

I'm here, and I'm most definitely out...
It's a sad thing, but RL keeps me away from m2m2 far too much - and when I am here, I can't think of anything worth mentioning. Just at the moment, gardening is on my mind to the exclusion of all else.
As for an m2m2 meet - can we put that off for a couple of years? I need to save at least $3000 to get me there and back.

Can't imagine what researcher you could possibly mean whom would definatley* come to a M2M2 meet Roymondo As you say, though, Roymondo, I'm (well I think so ) pretty straight acting, and certainly non scene etc also Wasn't there talk some time back of moving the M2M2 pages; is it still the case taht the pages can't be edited as the researcher who created them is no longer about?

A request can be put to the italics to take over "owner/editorship" of the pages and generally as long as the person is a deffo Elvis then they are very accomodating with it.
it just needs someone who is about alot and reliable - i thought Mikey was the ideal candidate. i know we talked about this before.
An email is all it will take and possibly some for bribery

Oops I mean of course Mikeo!!
Cupid stunt is about intemittantly so the first step would be to leave a message on his PS and see if he would be happy if someone took over the day to day organisation of the group - and then email the italics.

Wow! People turned up!
Sorry Ivan, I know you're a very, very long way away, maybe you could find a sugar daddy to bring you?
King 2legs - what on earth made you think I was thinking of you? You were, of course, right.
As for the rest of it, while I'm regularly on H2G2 I can't really commit to anything as life is a bit random at the moment, but I would like to see a bit more activity here and will contribute what I can.
Anyway, I've been told to go to bed. A sofa bed with an iron frame. Draw your own conclusions.
At least some things are working out OK!

You can call me Mikey if you want to, Mort. I could probably tidy up the forum site once I've got broadband in my new place (which I moved into today) ... although I agree it definitely needs sorting out. So who sends this email to the Italics - me or someone else?

Mort - a middle aged Girl Interrupted Posted Sep 3, 2005
I have posted a message on Cupids PS F35939?thread=952805 which is the first and right thing to do.
I am sure we will hear from him, but if we don't then the next stage would be for Mikeo to email the italics with a link to this thread and the one I have just posted, plus a list of all the pages that will need the change in editorship
I mentioned 2 weeks as it does give us a time frame with which to work, but I also didn't want CS to feel like he was being kicked out.

Hope that is ok with everyone!

Hello again,
Mort - thanks for taking the lead.
Mikeo - thanks for volunteering (I *think* you volunteered)
Ivan - I know what you mean about not having anything to say but hopefully a higher profile would encourage some inspirational newcomers.
2legs - isn't here. Here's hoping he's having fun somewhere!
I ache.

Ivan the Terribly Average Posted Sep 3, 2005
If you ache, does that mean you've been having fun somewhere?
I ache, but that's because of gardening. Not quite the same, really.

Primeval Mudd (formerly Roymondo) Posted Sep 3, 2005
If it's any consolation, it doesn't happen often. But it's nice when it does.
Crivvens, this is the busiest m2m2s been for weeks!
Stoking the fires..
Ivan the Terribly Average Posted Sep 3, 2005
Yes, that's true - even if there are just as many references to gardening as to other more interesting matters.

Perhaps you should all take a look at the latest Edited Guide entry I have been sub-editing - see my tag line
As far as a re-vamp goes then there are a couple of threads on it already (too lazy to dig out the links ) - editorship of groups is not changed willy-nilly by the Italics so a legitimate and official course of action has to followed. But it is difficult to get the ball rolling - which is why I think it has petered out in the past and editorship has not got round to being changed or even attempted on an official footing.
I know that Cupid Stunt is still subscribed to M2M2, so will have seen the threads but sometimes RL means you have to prioritise what you can reply to or even read. He was last online 2 days ago so hopefully he will see the message I left and be able to decide what is in the best interests of M2M2.
I think Mikeo expressed an interest and was henceforth nominated A reliable and regular hootooer - so has my vote. But even more important is - happy to, able to, and silly enough to take on the challenge
I was on hootoo over a year before I realised M2M2 existed. As far as possible (without spamming) I would expect to be able to find m2m2 from any "unstraight" entry on h2g2. (Bearing in mind that Edited Guide entries cannot link to unedited entries or clubs - there is nothing to stop someone posting to an entry saying we exist though!)
There are thousands of researchers on h2g2 so how come it is the same 10-20 people that always post here??? Simple - because the rest don't know about us!! Once the group has had a makeover and a fresh lick of paint then I can remind the other ACEs that if they come across someone who is 'out' to give them a link to M2M2.
Afterall this is an anonymous site - you can be out in whatever way you wish (Bi, L, G, transV, transX - nobody here is going to judge). But there is at least somewhere that can represent them onsite.
Most of the people I know on h2g2 don't know I am Bi and as a volunteer I have to have quite a high profile. I don't flaunt it just like I don't flaunt the fact that I have brown hair - and very lovely hair it is too .
The EG is ever growing so I would like a page of M2M2-related entries maintained.
I would like more than the gay games (even though I love them!). Perhaps a new topic for discussion every month - ie the new laws concerning same sex couples in the UK. The latest adoption laws. Claiming benefits as same sex couple etc etc etc. Topical discussions that people can relate to or will have an opinion on.
That is what I see that M2M2 can offer that the rest of the site can't - personal experience and/or opinions of things that affect us. A shortcut to related entries, real life issues for debate as well as chilling out in a games section. Not to mention just meeting up for a chat.
Just a quick on the subject even if it has taken me an hour to write
*gets off soapbox*

Hello All!
Good of you to bring this to my attention, however, I'm not the current editor! I turned the task over to Steve a while ago (years!), but he doesn't seem to have done a lot with it since (RL I suppose). Doesn't seem to have been around since 2003 either...
Anywho, I think I still have his email - I shall let him know of this conversation, and ask what his intentions are.
I'd be happy to help with reviving/revamping the place, but I think it is time the baton passed to someone new. Go for it!

Good morning,
Mort - Good entry, nice tag line. You mentiom flaunting, and one of the reasons I'd *really* like to see this place take off is that making an honest contribution to some of the more 'interesting' threads inevitably involves some, erm, background. I'm sure it'll probably get on some people's nerves and I'd like to be able to chat about this stuff without repeatedly 'coming out'. Nobody's said anything yet, but that may be down to the open minded nature of the people that are involved in those conversations.
It would be great if all those that feel comfortable doing so put a link to m2m2 on there PS. I know many already have. Of course, once people come here, we have give then something worth staying for.
Cupid Stunt - Thanks for popping by. Good luck with the e-mail. And nice one for all you achieved here in the first place!
I ache less.
Ooh, Gorillaz video on telly. I'm off... (see the Cartoons thread).

Just to throw my 2 (pence/cents) worth in, I'd like to say that I think it's really good that some of us gay hootoos have come on here (shhh - naughty) and expressed a wish to re-open our little area.
The potential is HUGE.
The format is written.
The reason? Because we can and should.
I sound like a Homo Churchill! Perhaps not.
I think it's about time we chatted about things from cushions to counselling, marriage to merangues.
I feel an overwhelming sense of foreboding!
