But seriously one day these 'christian' organisations will end up saying that infertile people shouldn't be allowed to adopt as if God had thought they'd make good parents he wouldn't have made them infertile.

These so called 'christian' organisations rarely tend towards Christianity as Christ taught it. Look on the bright side. If God does exist and Christ was the son of God and you can only get to heaven by acting as he taught then all these bigots are gonna burn in hell

That's true and what kinda makes it scary is that you also have people buying the Daily Mail and The Telegraph

The Telegraph menace will succumb to natural wastage: most of its readers are quite close to drawing their last. The Daily Mail's a much worse/scarier problem.

I wonder if anyone has ever done a scientific study of who is most likely to molest children? I know that by and large it is not gay people, but I'm wondering if there is a way to find out how many child molesters are overtly religious, uptight, pseudo-prudes who are - as one friend once so eloquently put it "so heavenly minded they're no earthly good".. I'd waiger there are quite a few... sorry - getting a tad snarky, I know..

Here locally there is a trial going on surrounding a man who, as a teacher, molested students of both genders over decades... of course he's a "good, churchgoing individual" and friends and family are shocked by it all.. the good news is he took these kids over state lines which makes it a federal offense so he's in a heck of a lot more trouble than he would be if it were a state offense.

I have a theory. Oh joy!

I think that men who repress and/or feel guilty about their sexual urges join the (a) church because they think it will remove temptation and/or give them something else to think about, and that's why churches are rife with gay men and paedophiles.

Just a thought.

I think there's a lot of truth in what you say Roymundo.

I think to a certain extent you are right, Roymondo. But that also supposes that the molesters would be gay and feel guilty because of some religious views. I think the reason that the molesters who have turned to the church are probably gay is because they're trying to turn away from what they are being told is evil (which of course it isn't).

To be candid I don't think gay or straight has much of anything to do with who is likely to molest, just like rape has little to do with sex and everything to do with dominance. A child molester feels the need to dominate like any rapist and as a coward, chooses an easy victim who they can easily do so with.

And that lends some credence to your stance Rillington, as in, why do gay men feel the need to hide? While I doubt we'll agree completely on this I do feel that the media's lack of portrayal of/accentuation of gay people contributes to it, as does peer pressure and family.

The saddest thing is that these people are in a world where, in my experience, they *won't* be made to feel wrong if they come out.

I accept that our experiences differ.
