The Lancaster yes forgotten that one, brilliant kit.

My father would have had a word regarding the graphics on the D Day set!

All he remembers is the landing craft opening up and his sergeant dropping and shouting run you ****** s.

He was an officer just because he had gone to grammar school, he always said too much education was dangerous.

Here's the thing: hardly anybody really *likes* plastic grocery bags, and plastic straws, and plastic wrapping materials. It's just that there's very little choice. The best I've been able to do is re-use things. Plastic utensils that get used over and over again are okay. I used to buy jars of applesauce. When the applesauce was gone, I rinsed them out and used them for storing beans or coffee grounds, etc. I still have about a dozen of them, many years after they held applesauce.

I keep cotton grocery bags in my car, but I usually forget to take them into the grocery store with me when I buy food. smiley - blush

There are recycling bins across the street form my house, and I bring paper and plastic materials to them.

The trouble with recycling, though, is that it takes fossil fuels to pick them up, deliver them to recycling centers, and repurpose them for other uses.

Buying and using a compost barrel is another thing I ought to do. I could compost food waste.

My "neighbors" in front have taken to composting their unused vegetables and other leftovers in the backyard. It is a bit of a problem as the holes can make for unsure footing when I need to do the raking of leafs.

True. But still better than filling the oceans with plastic. And we can power vehicles with electrickery and soon pobably also hydrogen instead of fossil fuels smiley - geek

The other day, someone in an underwater device went deeper than anyone has ever gone, and *still* found litter on the ocean floor. This was the Marianas Trench, so you can just imagine how bad it is in shallower areas. smiley - sadface

Yes smiley - sadface

Did not film maker Cameron dive to the bottom of that trench years go?

Yes, he did: Here's an article on it:

Cameron is a remarkable man, as well as a remarkable filmmaker.

Paper products should be versatile enough for almost any packaging purpose. The one thing that they lack -- transparency -- is what supermarkets and other product vendors want, though. You want to see the product through the packaging.

I've read about the use of paper as wrapping materialsi n India. After you have taken out the food that was wrapped, you could then burn the paper to heat it up.

Kenya and Rwanda have banned plastic carrier bags, and Kenya wants Uganda, Tanzania and Burundi to join in the fight against the plastic menace.

If they can do it, why can't we?

In the eleven years since Rwanda banned plastic bags, the country's environment has improved. Kenya's environment has improved as well, for the same reason.

There are encouraging trends in many of the African countries. Solar panels have made enough of a dent to reduce use of kerosene. Chinese companies have been able to build rail lines linking isolated areas. South Africa is no longer isolated, and it has sought to play the peacemaker role in African disputes. It is a member of The Southern African Customs Union.

Then there is central Africa. The Economic and Monetary Community of Central Africa is moving toward establishing a Common Market.

It is nice to see Africa leading the world by banning single-use plastics.
