Hey SMURF, it was a Joke, honest .
I have a soft spot for metal. Although I was mainly into gothy/indie stuff as a kid, where I grew up in Essex loads of kids were into wearing Pringle golfing sweaters and listening to Spandau Ballet and Wham, they were the Doh! Casuals. Anything else had a kind of magnetic attraction, so I ended up going to a lot of parties with metalheads.
My favourite metal/heavy rock bands are Metallica, Hawkwind, Sabbath, Nirvana, Led Zep, Iron Maiden, Steve Vai, Frank Zappa and Deep Purple.
Metal is a great national institution and should be cherished. It's just misunderstood as satan worship, bat decapitation and Status Quo.

Did anyone else round here like Bauhaus?
And don't you just hate it when you can't tell if someone is having a joke or not round here? I'm forever misreading people, taking them seriously when I shouldn't and thinking what they said was a joke when it wasn't. Some sort of standard should be developed round here.
And all my friends at school were Brosettes!!! It's no wonder I looked towards metal to save me!

Bros were awful weren't they. I was starting to get into Soft rock then which inevitably led to the harder stuff. I remember going to see Bon Jovi at Milton Keynes Bowl and Bros were playing Wembley Stadium (can you believe it?!) that day. The fans paths crossed at Euston, it was quite interesting. Lots of fresh faced teeney boppers meeting drunk metallers - I remember chanting "Bros are shit" to some horrified little boys and girls - excellent!

I think everything on this site is a joke in some form or other.
The problem is taking any of it seriously, which is very easy to do.
I just say, to hell with it and Death to False Metal!

What the bloody hell is "false metal" is it like those joke boobs you get? Do you dress up in a gingham frock for it? Sorry... I'm just not taking you seriously (again)!

You obviously don't listen to Manowar!
Classically funny line from this band and they take it seriously!?
And others such as 'Wimps and posers, leave the hall!' plus my all time favourite 'If your not into metal you are not my friend!"
At times they can be very funny but not dissing the Kings of Metal, True Metal etc. I like their music and that's all I listen to (if you know what I mean)

No you're right, I don't listen to Manowar. I just saw the opportunity to make a cheap joke and took it! Sorry!

These may be a bit recent for this discussion but these are my top metal bands:
1. Orifice (my band)
2. Deftones
3. Sysytem of a Down
4. One Minute Silence
5. Incubus (bit funky!)
6. Kill II This
I could go on...
Do you realise that 'Korn'is mentioned only twice in h2g2? (Three times now)

Well, from the 2 songs i've heard of the deftones ('lotion (live)' and 'My own Summer(Shove it)') I think they're pretty good.
My mate went to see one minute silence a few weeks back, he said it was awesome...

Does anyone remember Budgie? They wrote Breadfan, which Metallic covered ages ago and also on Garage Inc. (which sucks.)

Yes! They were ok. I only heard a few of their songs via my mates dad (sorry). I think Canned Heat were about around the same time weren't they - they were pretty good. Must say though, I was mostly a dodgy metal chick. My favourites were Skid Row, TNT, Aerosmith, Dare and various other obscure UK bands that didn't make it further than the Marquee.... do these ring bells with anyone else: Belladonna, Midnight Blue (ace!), Last of the teenage fan club, Monterez?

Sadly not. I wasn't even about then. I heard Bugdie via an old person (my dad).

Didn't mean it like that. Who likes ORIFICE? They rock! God, if I could play guitar like Magic Al... well. And if I could sing like Uncle Mark or play bass like Genital Ben... I can only dream. At least I can play drums like Tray.
