Am I being reasonable???
MadSnacker-h2g2 ambassador to Yorkshire and the UK Started conversation Dec 17, 2010
Something that may be of interest to the community happened to me on Wednesday. At close to the very end of the school day,my English instructor decided to give us an assignment that I felt was a bit unusual. It was a copy of a test found in a magazine dealing with New Year's resolutions, specifcally, making what it called "positive changes" in attitude. In its original form, I believe it would have been rather benign, because the results and advice would have been absolutely confidential.
But here, the instructor was going to give her interpetation of what would be a "good" set of actions to take. Also, she asked us to put our names on said tests.
I was rather upset, apparently quite noticeably so. I figured that this kind of backhanded form of information gathering was not acceptable. If recommended as part of a therapy "homework" assignment via my treatment team..well,yes, I can see that as being workable. Clinicians are bound by law to secrecy. Teachers in the LAUSD are not so protected from information gathering from law enforcement, etc.
I did not participate.
I am aware that businesses do their bit of testing to weed out those with "negative" behaviors. This is part of the social fabric. But where do we draw lines?

You draw the line where you drew it MS!
Insidious information gathering by the teacher is not on at all. Getting you to put your name to it goes over the top completely!!
Even if you did not have to name yourself, your handwriting would be recognised!!!
As you say, for a , or even a maybe to do it, OK, they have ethical standards...
Teachers????? No Way!!!

Strangest thing...
I've the repeated feeling that I've been "tested"..seeing if my disability is "real"...
It's as though there is no recognition/awareness of the rights of people with psychiatric problems..or maybe simply backwards thinking about what we are "supposed" to be as far as intellectual capability.

If your illness has no outwards signs, then are you really ill???
That seems to be the attitude!
All Wrong!!

Aye...
My problem is CONTROLLED not cured. Nor will it ever be.
And even with the regimen of meds I use..still,some days...
But,I'll leave off for now. I'll see who else gives an opinion.
I must be open-minded...

I never make such silly new year's resolutions, either. What's the point? I can set my mind to something any time I want. If that's in June, is it worth less than if it was on 31.12.?
