There's about 180+ unwelcomed single-starred Researchers in the last couple of days that could use some attention...
I'll do a couple after lunch - anyone else want to allocate themselves some?

Same here.
Have you posted on the yahoo group, just in case anyone hasn't seen the message? (I still think that some people aren't subscribed to the aces homepage!! )
Good luck.

I'll get on and do some this evening; I have been quietly working through a couple occasionally, but it's difficult to do any more than 5 or 6 at a time sometimes... I'll get through some later, promise

I'm ACEing right now but since I'll be away for a week and thus not able to reply I don't do more then 20.

Mort, I posted on the Yahoo! group a while back about the ever-growing newbie list and lack of ACEing, so I'm saying no more. The person who emailed me to tell me to mind my own business but doesn't do a lot of ACEing themselves, you know who you are...
But I'll do some now - I'll clear some of the older ones

I hope that person wasn't me - that would be embarrassing. I don't think it was, but with these exams, I've been a bit grouchy, to say the least. And woefully inactive on h2g2.
No - I'm sure now that it wasn't me. But I won't delete this posting and start again because that way you all get to laugh at me being paranoid and delusional.

That is bad fords. Afterall there are about 80+ ACES. That would be 3 newbies each, no great difficulty.
I better shut up because everyone knows my feelings on this and that is why I left in the first place.
Whoami? are you sure? Really sure? Absolutely sure?

Yes, Mort. I'm 100% sure. Or at least, I will be in a week or so, once I'm gone from my school and no longer prisoner of an internet filter that means I can't check the aceforum archives...

You're ok, Whoami?, it wasn't you!
Mort, I don't want to leave the scheme, but even though it's a voluntary scheme and all I'm of the firm belief that if you're an ACE, you greet newcomers as well as the other ACEly duties. It may be unpaid, but it is still a responsibility. In fact, I think greeting the newcomers is the most important task of an ACE. Of course, there are people who can't do as much as they may like or have been offline for their own reasons, but even if you log in and do two or three, it really isn't much to ask
And to think there are loads of people who'd love to be an ACE and would probably do a great job, but can't get in because there are more than enough of us!

That mirrors my feelings when I was an ace.
People say - don't be a martyr and do so many, ask for help. I did, it didn't work and that is why you get a list of 180.
Still it is NOMB anymore, well no more than any other researcher/volunteer.
Hey ho.

With 80 ACEs there should be no excuse for a build up of 180 new researchers.
I really think there needs to be cull in the ACE ranks to weed out those that aren't, haven't and have no intention of taking their ACE duties more seriously. However where to draw the line is the real question. I think culling a little and often would be the best approach. Get rid of the 3 least active ACE every month, if they don't have a valid reason for not pulling their weight and hiring just 2 new ACEs with each cull.
I'm s'posed to be on a break from active ACE duty because of how stressed I've been, and, to get over my failed suicide plus I'm not on the site for half the week. But the list is still long so I'll have crack at it.

I'm sure that there'll be some thinking going on at Bush House about this - but arbitrary numbers aren't the way to be thinking. Rather, those who have obviously Elvised should be removed, but beyond that, the scaling down has to be a medium-term goal...

"Elvised"
As previously mentioned, I brought this up in the Aceforum and most people shot me down in flames. I'm not getting at anyone who has a valid reason for not being around (I've taken time off from being an ACE too, as I also pointed out), but for people who seem to be more interested in having a badge on their space and see ACEing as the 'easiest' job of all of the h2g2 volunteer schemes, they have to either hand in their badge so someone who WILL do the job can have a go or do the obvious and do what you're supposed to do as an ACE
