New tech to save old oaks

Satellite technology is being used to preserve one of Britain's oldest and most endangered woodlands (Paul Wilkinson writes).

Global positioning equipment, normally used to pinpoint ships and aircraft, is identifying and charting the sites of hundreds of oak trees, some of which first took root in the days of Henry VIII.

Health checks can now be carried out on the trees in a 200-acre woodland near Helmsley, North Yorkshire, which are under threat from conifers and alien hardwood species which have been introduced over the centuries.

I'm glad to hear that about the email... I was way surprised to get it from estates and Buildings.
