Dragonfly. "A poet can survive everything but a misprint"-- Oscar Wilde

I began playing World of Warcraft in December for school. I was in a fabulous English education class, where we studied graphic novels (comic books), film and video/computer games and Web 2.0 as learning tools for students. My final was a presentation about my experience with the online role-playing game.

I really love playing and as I have made friends, and stuck to a lot of the slang I picked up during my hootoo/nearly moving to London days, I have thought back to this site and the friendships I have made here.

As always, I hope everyone is doing well.

I also wanted to put out there that I play for the horde on the Muradin server. So if you happen to play on the same server for the horde, let's please add each other as friends. If you haven't begun to play but want to, and need someone to guide you, I would be pleased to do my best.

Just let me know!

.... and school and everything else in life is going beautifully. My first semester wasn't idyllic (who's is?) and this one has shown me I have more friends than I had realized before. I'm also getting pretty busy with poetry -- participating in readings and helping a local organization judge a poetry contest.

Great Zeus, things are groovy. YAY!!!

(Oh and I will be working on a project for a class this semester that ties into World of Warcraft and women/girls who play it. If you are drawn to being interviewed or know a good lead -- article or individual -- I am grateful.)

Cheers.

smiley - hugNice to see you around Draggers!smiley - cheesecake Glad to hear you're well (your name came up a week or so back when rather a bundle of much-loved old Hootoo names suddenly showed up out of the blue).

I'm not really into things like WoW... well, that's not quite true, I very much suspect that I would love it and become totally addicted, and I really can't afford to let that happen. I have precious little 'real life' as it is and I really ought to go outside just occasionally.smiley - winkeye

If real life were so great, why do so many of us come here to get away from it? smiley - winkeye

That's the trouble. At the moment reality is just *so* good I could quite happily move into my computer altogether.smiley - winkeye

There used to be some movies ("Tron," "Videodrome," etc.) about people who got into (or were taken over by) their computers. They tended not to enjoy the experience, though. smiley - yikes

I'm quite partial to cribbage myself.

Fifteen-two, fifteen four, fifteen six, two for his knob and all that.

"Two for his knob" sounds rude!

Affy, I have not played City of Hero(e)s. It's just been SIMS2 in the past and now this WoW deal for me. The other night, while at work (I have a now-and-again job at an events center, and occasionally bartend, but usually bus tables and pass out appetizers with awesome folks, one of them a dear, dear friend!) a couple guys there blurted out all sort of intense WoW statements to each other. They're lvl 70s in the game, which is the highest you can go right now. My highest toon is a lvl 34. Shaman. smiley - tongueout

Thanks, Gosho, Affy, Pauly and PF, for stopping by! PF, I can understand the "real life" time issue. Y'all remember how I once held the record for the MOST posts on hootoo? Sheesh .... Well, I'm still in a nice, spoiled spot in life. Yeah, my parents aren't around anymore to do all the chores, but my boyfriend and I are laid back and parentless, so I still get to slack off considerably. Plus, he plays too and we're always sharing tips with each other.

If I could give others extra time, I would.

Thanks for letting me know my name came up in a good light the other day. smiley - blush

Pauly's got good points about escaping life to spend time in the virtual world. Having friends online can really change where you invest yourself. smiley - winkeye

Affy, I haven't played City of Hero(e)s, but my sweetie started playing Half Life recently. THAT looks amazing. Think it is Half Life 2. And he finished Portal before that, and LOVED it. These are on the Orange Box disc he got for C-mas. Portal looked way too geometrically-logically puzzling for me and I won't pick up another game just yet. One addiction is sufficient, wot? smiley - winkeye

Take care, m'dears!

PARENTLESS? .... paaarentless?

Ha ha. smiley - erm

M'love and I have both our complete sets of parents ("Collect 'em all!") and I meant childless, not parentless.

smiley - tongueout

I could start a whole new thread about the child issue. We both think often of having them, but want to wait another handful of years. Travel more and let me really invest time into writing novels again.

Yeah. I'm ready. I've not HAD it with poetry, but I am itching to get back into my characters and their world. I also feel I've developed plenty as a writer since I last took a crack at fiction.

One strategy is for me to write a biography after I complete my MFA (probably next spring), so I feel more competent in book-length prose, so I have something that, in theory at least, is more marketable for first-time book authors. Plus, I might be able to use the biography for a Fullbright abroad!

Dragonfly, I remember that you once spoke about your brother, who was having some health problems. Is he all right, now?

As for being parentless, that's apparently not so. smiley - tongueout

Thanks for stopping by and being zen, Pierce. Exciting to see you and be remembered by you! ARRRRGH! smiley - pirate

Pauly, yes, my brother had some health issues. I think in a way he -- and Mom -- always will. In some ways they are both better. But I kinda have a theory that without their own will to improve, to work on the hard stuff like knowing themselves and what can heal them and only them, then they won't especially improve. I feel, from my experience, that doctors and even lovers and families can only give you so much.

How's that for zen?

smiley - winkeye

Thanks for remembering and for asking. smiley - hug I feel warm and fuzzy!
