Just watch out for the flooding

Practically every afternoon, the waters from the canal roll in, and you get water covering the ground level of the entire main square, and most buildings.
Those gondolas?...too expensive, and the ride isn't really worth it except if you're with a loved one.
Some decent dining, and the place is almost nice along the main bridge, but that's about the only area that doesn't look & smell like a sewer.

Do they really sing on the gondolas? Any one got anything else on gondolas and gondoliers? Wasn't there a Monty Python sketch on this?

A couple of the gondoliers we saw were musically equipped (a singer and an accordion player or violinist). They caused quite a spectacle whenever they performed, but they really didn't move around much; they basically just popped out into the middle of the canal, hovered there for a few minutes, then went back in.

Please see the Bulgarian correspondent's entry to see that world domination has never actually been a Bulgarian pastime. This is a country dedicated (even during the days of the Zhivkov regime, to rakia, women and agricultural machines -- the bigger the better!
