My boyfriend got me a bunch of roses a few weeks ago, and in the last few days I've noticed that as they wilted, some of the petals started turning a really deep purple/fuchsia sort of color. Not all of them, though; some are still red and one is half red/half purple. Why do the colors change like that?

It may or may not be important that they're about a foot away from a red heat lamp for my roommate's gecko.

I seem to remember that many red colours in plants are sensitive to acidity - more pink/magenta when acid, more blue/purple when basic.
How this can affect flowers in the same vase, I cannot say.
